Tablet sales grew constantly since 2010 when Apple introduced the first iPad. This year, a turnaround could turn out. Market researchers from Gartner have downgraded their estimates for sold tablets this year by eleven percent down. While the company was still expecting some 257 million tablets sold in 2017, the analysts revised their sales forecast to now 229 million – a minus of 11 percent.

Gartner - as already before BestBuy boss Hubert Joly (pc-magazin.de) - is assuming that users do not exchange their devices as quickly as originally thought. At the same time, less and less new customers can be encouraged to buy a tablet. A surprising point is also: In surveys, many participants said that tablets would not be used for them in everyday life. Whether it's tablet owners or potential buyers, is unknown.
While tablets are expected to be heavier in the future, Gartner predicts strong growth for Ultrabooks. 2017 sales of the slim and energy-saving notebooks are to rise by more than 70 percent to 64.4 million devices. For desktop PCs and classic notebooks, however, Gartner does not look as bright as it was the mentioned BestBuy boss in the message of our colleagues from pc-magazin.de represented. Classic computers are still sinking in the coming year.
What do you think? Has Gartner been right with the prognosis? Are fewer tablets sold because the users know nothing more? Tell us in the comments or on the Facebook page of bizzwire.
