The camera year 2017: What DSLR novelties come

Rumors about

Canon: The calm before the storm?

The camera market is moving. While Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony made a name for themselves with exciting new models in 2013, the Nikon Dikon Nikon DSLR and Pentax were rather quiet. Which system cameras in 2017 could come to us, we have gathered here for you by means of the most important manufacturers.

Nikon: search for more margin and new markets

Main dates for the presentation of many camera novelties will be the trade fairs CES from 7th - 10th January in Las Vegas, CP + from 13th - 16th February in Japan and Photokina from 16 - 21st September in Cologne. One of the most exciting questions the year will be whether, if so, how the top models among the APS-C DSLRs will assert against the competing full-format competition competing at ever-lower prices.

Fujifilm: new for photo gourmet

In 2013 it was quiet at Canon. The only real innovation of recent times was the dual pixel CMOS-AF introduced with the EOS 70D. The EOS M2, which was recently only available for the Japanese and Chinese market, also appears to be an intermediate step towards a second generation of EOS-M.

Leica: compact system camera in view

The Canon novelties to the CES will be held once in the compact class. It is really interesting later on. In a recent interview with the Japanese Internet site DC.Watch, Canon CEO Masaya Maeda talked about the perspectives of the EOS M system. According to this, a new EOS-M camera with an integrated electronic viewfinder could be launched in the second half of 2017. In doing so, one would attach importance to a compact design.

In the future, the photo / video hybrid function will also play an important role in mirrorless EOS-M system cameras. 2017 should be "the year of the lenses" for Canon, and not only new EOS-M lenses, but also numerous other new or revised EF and EF-S lenses. Even a semi-professional EOS-M could imagine Maeda. He also emphasized the future importance of the EOS Cinema line.

DSLR-News from Canon expects the rumored kitchen only to the Photokina 2017 later in the year. Basic changes to the full-format EOS-1D X / EOS-1D C / EOS 5D / EOS 6D series are not in sight. The modernization of two full-format models is expected. This could be a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, which is also upgraded with a dual-pixel CMOS AF sensor in a 24x36-mm format and a more powerful image processor.

Whether a new EOS-1 Dx Mark II as a successor to the 1Dx, with moderately more pixels or significantly higher pixel numbers similar to Nikon D800 and Sony A7R to the "studio camera" is upgraded, there are different rumors. Also a 4K video function could be introduced, as the Cinema-EOS 1-1C already offers, whose design the new top model according to Canonumors could orientate.

With the EOS-APS-C-SLRs, the question is whether there will be a successor to the top model 7D, which has been on the market since 2009. Technically, an EOS 7D Mark II would be due, but the full-format models like the EOS 6D will be cheaper, as the question arises, who then buys for almost the same money an APS-C model.

Nikon wants to streamline its DSLR range for economic reasons. This is evident from official Nikon statements this year. The Nikon SLR range currently consists of 15 models from the D3100 to the D3x introduced in 2008. With only one model each in the D3000 / D5000 / D7000 class, Nikon would still be well placed. In this class spells the recent rumor of a D3300 with a new, smaller 18-55mm standard zoom. The D90 from 2008 does not leave any gap, which would have to be filled again. Instead of the old D300s, an entry-level full-featured SLR would fit into the program, which gives a price-worthy response to the new Sony-competition A7, which is around 400 Euro cheaper compared to the D610.

In general, Nikon wants to concentrate on higher-margin models. The latest retro SLR Nikon Df is already an example of this. Also a higher-resolution follow-up model of the D3x as a new Nikon professional top model D4s or D4x with the sensor of the D800 would fit in the market as well as in the new Nikon business concept

A big question mark at Nikon concerns the segment of compact mirrorless system cameras (CSC). The Nikon 1 system may be nice and good, but remains an insulator solution with a small sensor. A mirrorless Nikon with APS-C or full-format sensor, on the other hand, would meet the requirements of true Nikon photographers as well as the Nikon target of larger margins. How to get compatibility with existing lenses, Sony and Olympus have already preempted.

Finally, Nikon wants to tap the growing potential in China and the other countries of Asia (and certainly also Latin America) in the area of low-cost entry-level SLRs. This is also apparent from a Reuters report. This would be a cheap basic model still fit below the D3000er series, perhaps a Nikon D1000, which would allow due to high unit numbers an attractive price without big cuts at the margin. The Nikon in this direction thinks, a section of official Nikon explanations in the presentation of the balance sheet for the second quarter of 2013. In addition, Nikon also mentions another compact mirrorless system camera

Olympus: Focused on OM-D and system expansion

At Fujifilm the situation is actually simple, but still somewhat unclear. Most speculate on an X-Pro1S or X-Pro2 as a successor to the two-year-old X-Pro 1, again with the APS-C sensor, perhaps even with a new organic CMOS image sensor with improved light output and greater angle of incidence. Fujifilm and Panasonic are working together on the development of this new sensor type, as ColorFoto has already reported. Rumors about a mirrorless full-format camera of the X series were recently denied by a Fujifilm manager in the interview with reference to the missing lenses, as reported by Fujirumors.

Also a possible Fujifilm X200 in the style of a Sony RX1 is pure speculation and should, if at all, acute later acute. For the spring, be it to the CES or the CP +, Fujifilm is rather with a black version of the X-100S to be rachen, as it was already from the X100. In addition, rumors of a new weather-proof X model with a classic-style case like the Olympus OM-D models and a double card slot are kept.

Panasonic: Focus on the essentials

Leica also sees the future as mirrorless. So probably a smaller system camera below the Leica M in the house. This is indicated by reliable evidence. Mirrorlessrumors wants to know that it is a Panasonic camera with its own new Leica bayonet.

It would be conceivable not only in view of the previous collaboration with Panasonic but also a Leica-buoyed Lumix GM1. It would be "Leica-worthy" as the latest test results in ColorFoto issue 1/204 show. However, statements by Leica CEO Alfred Schopf are to be opposed, according to which he excludes a camera in the Micro Four Thirds standard for Leica. We'll soon see if this was more than just a distraction maneuver.

Olympus will focus on the OM-D series next year. The explained Olympus developer Yukihiko in the interview with DC.watch. It is to be expected with a more favorable OM-D entry, in order to win new customers with a more favorable price. The Olympus E-M5 is an affordable alternative to a stripped-down OM-DE-M5 version. The E-M5 is offered in the spring of almost two years, Processor to the E-M3 upgraded successor again at the price of 1,100 or 1,200 euros between the then cheaper E-M5 and the 1,500 euro expensive E-M1.

Ricoh-Pentax: forced to full format?

Samsung: "NXF" dipped

Sigma: Focusing on the foveon sensor

Sony: Active on all fronts

Also interesting is

The transfer of the current OM-D E-M1 technology to a model of the Pen E-P series would be a logical next step at Olympus. It must wait but still, because a Pen-E with OM-D sensor and processor would be the danger to cannibalize the higher-quality OM-D series. Therefore, a new technology boost for the Pen E system should be expected at the earliest to the Photokina.

However, OM-D as Pen cameras will benefit from the planned expansion of the lens system, especially compact and light-weight fixed focal lengths.

According to reports from Asia, Panasonic plans to launch 2017 fewer new cameras than in the previous years on the market. Above all, the abundance of compact cameras should be reduced. Panasonic will focus on high-quality compact models of the TZ, FZ and LX series as well as Micro Four Thirds system cameras in order to profit profitable in the Cameras division.

In the Micro Four Thirds segment, Panasonic recently presented alternative design variants of the new Mini-Lumix GM1 in Singapore. Depending on the audience's resonance, one or other of them might be on the market. At the same event, Panasonic announced two other Micro-FourThirds lenses, a Zoom Lumix G-Vario 35-100 mm and a wide-angle wide-angle focal length Leica DG Summilux 1.7 / 15 mm

Also a new Micro-Four-Thirds-Top model with 4K video resolution is at Panasonic in the pipeline. However, Ichiro Kitao, head of the Panasonic DSC Division Division, recently dampened the hope of a show in 2017 as it was the development of a whole new product line. The data from Mirrorlessrumors rumors about a possible Lumix GH 4K already appear more speculative.

Handfester are the references to a new Lumix GF, presumably GF7, round like the GF5. The Japanese patentspecialists from the Egami-Blog have not only discovered drawings but already photos.

Relatively quiet also in the rumored kitchen is about Ricoh-Pentax-Imaging. In general, for the future: everything that has interchangeable lenses runs under the brand Pentax, and also waterproof, robust Optio models. Otherwise Ricoh will stand for high-quality compact cameras and "New Technology", ie cameras such as the recently introduced compact 360 ° panorama camera Theta.

As for the top-of-the-line Pentax SLRs in the K-3 price class (EIA 1,300 euros), the question is "how to continue?". If Canon and Nikon go to the full format challenge Sony A7 (currently about 1,500 euros) and then full-format SLRs at the end of 2017 at prices like the K-3 offered, Pentax gets a problem. When full-format is becoming more affordable, high-quality APS-C-SLRs will be difficult. On the other hand, the Pentax K-bayonet has always been suitable for 24x36 mm. Then a full-format K-SLR seems logical as a logical sequence in the own house even at Pentax is not quite as unlikely.

In view of this site, Ricoh-Pentax is not likely to venture into a new mirrorless system project with a larger sensor beyond the existing Q system. Pentax also appears very conservative in the topic of electronic viewfinders. This is not even rumored. How long the exotic module camera system Ricoh GXR is still running, is open. However, it will not be expanded further.

At Samsung, on the support pages, which discovered Mirrorlessrumors, with the type designation "NXF" once again a model listed, which does not exist at all. The fact that it is a mirrorless system camera, should be safe. The fact that the "F" stands for a model with full-format sensor, however, is no more than a rumor.

Exciting at Samsung will surely be the answer to the question whether the Android operating system of the Galaxy NX and their possibilities of wireless image and data communication will be used in other system cameras.

The fact that Samsung is ambitious in the photo area is also demonstrated by organizational measures. For example, Samsung has integrated the "Digital Imaging" business unit into the "wireless" business area. They hope for synergies in technology and marketing between the two sectors.

At Samsung Deutschland, the area of "Head of Digital Imaging" has just been created. As of 1 January 2017, he will be occupied by the experienced industry expert Marco Hahn, who was formerly active for Nikon and most recently as Sigma Deutschland's managing director.

To Sigma there are - for some time - rumors about a mirrorless system camera with the still unique Foveon sensor. Such a Sigma mirrorless could be based on a DP model, which is equipped with a bayonet instead of a fixed lens. On the other hand, there is not the illusion that Sigma is working on a larger version of its Foveon sensor, which could be used in a successor model to the SD1 in 2017.

Sony is also expected a mirrorless system camera with 4K video resolution. This is a model of two other mirrorless full-format cameras in the SLR look a la Sony Alpha A7 be. The second model could be an even more affordable Sony Alpha A5 as a full-size entry-level model. The SLT-Alphas with APS-C sensor is expected to be a successor to the SLT-A77, which is more than two years old.

The compact NEX cameras are expected to be a successor to the NEX-7. The NEX-7N or NEX-7R - both names are rumored to be traded - could be equipped with a new Sony sensor to further enhance color reproduction.

No new details are yet to be found on a new NEX-Top model with full-format sensor called NEX-9. That a VF-NEX comes however, and that it will not only remain with a model, can be considered safe. On his Facebook page, Zeiss has already announced five MF lenses for "these full frame CSCs" (full-format compact system cameras), which are to be presented at the Photokina 2017.

The speculation about another challenging Sony compact camera with a fixed lens between the compact zoom camera SonyRX100 II and the bridge camera RX10, both with a 1-inch sensor, as well as the Sony RX1 with 24x36 mm sensor seem to be confirmed . There would still be space for a Sony RX with APS-C sensor or but a stripped-down RX1. The latter, Sony manager Kimio Maki, responsible for the reflex models, indicated in a conversation with Imaging Resource at the beginning of December

Suspiciously few rumors exist so far around a possibly from the Sony A3000 developing series of mirrorless E-bayonet system cameras with the traditional SLR look. The system does not seem to spur the fantasies of the Sony fans. It is only known that Sony has applied for authorization for an "ILCE 5000" (ie A5000) at the Taiwan NCC (National Communications Commission). Any technological synergy effects resulting from the entry of Sony into Olympus as a result of the recent financial crisis seem not yet to be in sight.

Still independent of a specific camera model, Sony is to work intensively on the development of a new sensor generation, which manages without the usual RGB Bayer pattern. It is a 54-megapixel sensor, with 2,460 focus points for the AF-detection AF covering 78% of its 24x36mm sensor area.

The high resolution could be an indication that this is the sensor, the Sony supposedly developed together with Hasselblad and the ColorFoto already reported. It is intended to provide a significantly improved dynamic range for the individual pixels (groups) by means of different exposure times. However, serial production and use in cameras is not expected before 2017/2016.
