The new Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will find their way into offices like their predecessors. However, they are just a smart accessory for specifying, or can the new Apple smartphones facilitate the business everyday from a functional perspective?
Larger display, higher resolution, more workspace
While the iPhone 6 with its 4.7-inch display and a resolution of 1.334 x 750 pixels compared to the iPhone 5s only provides about 38 percent more viewing area, the iPhone 6 Plus surpasses its predecessor by far. With its 5.5-inch display and full-HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), the iPhone 6 Plus has 185 percent more visibility than the iPhone 5s. Apple's new flagship on the display finally provides more space for office applications such as e-mail, spreadsheets, presentations and, of course, web applications. However, the Apple iPhone 6 Plus only connects to other smartphones, which have long since full-HD displays or like the LG 3, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Edge even higher-resolution displays - up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. Plus, the iPhone 6 Plus does not fit into any suit and trouser pocket.
More powerful processor - why?
Apple installed in the iPhone models 6 and 6 Plus the new processor Apple A8 and the co-processor M8. According to Apple, the chip combination will be significantly more powerful than the A7 and M7 - especially in terms of graphics performance. Great for gamers, but for business users, the graphics power of a smartphone is not relevant. Anyone who wants to show a few 3D animations / graphics on his iPhone 5s has already had problems with it.
Stronger battery for longer meetings and business travel
The duration was the iPhone 5s one of the biggest criticisms. Apple apparently heard the voices of the critics and the iPhone 6 components for a longer time remote from the socket installed. The A8 is to consume 50 percent less power than the A7. In addition, the battery capacity on the iPhone 6 Plus is 2.915 mAh, which is almost twice as high as the iPhone 5s (1.560 mAh). Apple speaks of a WLAN / LTE usage time of 12 hours, a call time (3G) of 24 hours and a standby time of 384 hours. Thus, business users could finally sit for hours in meetings, airplanes or trains without having to keep a close eye on the next outlet.
Apple Pay - really more practical?
With Apple Pay, the payment should be easier and safer than with a credit card. It may be that in the US this payment system will benefit. However, you can pay almost any amount with the credit card. Accordingly, the Americans do so often. In Europe and especially in the United States, consumers pay their daily purchases rather with cash. And if at the checkout the grip on the credit card and the input of the PIN number is so much more cumbersome than the handle to the mobile phone, everyone has to decide for themselves.
In addition, dealers would have to invest again in the new Apple Pay system. Since the retail margins are low and there are already accepted payment systems, it is questionable whether the dealers will do this step on a grand scale. But one thing is for sure: You'll always get the money in your wallet (cash or credit card) without any energy in your iPhone battery but not Apple Pay.
With its 5.5-inch display and full-HD resolution, the iPhone 6 Plus comes close to the iPad mini. Both offer a format that is basically sufficient for product use. With both devices, you can communicate with your business partners, exchange data, browse the Internet, view presentations, edit tables and documents. Especially the landscape mode, in which the iPhone 6 Plus changes, as soon as you hold it transversally, is suitable for office work. We know this more practical way of showing the mail app only from the iPad.
The two new display formats will once again inspire the market for iPhone accessories. New cases, bags, car mounts, bumper and foil are just the beginning. Of course, various manufacturers will also rework their end devices (eg loudspeakers, radios) and bring to the market with a fitting recess for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Or not. The short-range radio NFC could make the insertion of an iPhones in a terminal again superfluous. In any case, we expect many new gadgets with NFC.
In the run-up to the Apple event, the stock climbed new heights, even the last peak of September 2013, the share just surpassed. However, only a few hours after the Apple keynote went downhill again. In contrast to the Apple fans, the Apple investors took the two new iPhone 6 models and Apple Watch less positive: The Apple stock fell from almost 80 euros to around 74 euros. But already two days after the keynote, it is again with the Apple stock again. It remains exciting.
