Picasa alternative searched: After Google discontinued development on the popular photo software, many users would like to switch to other programs.
Picasa still works
On March 15 Google has discontinued its free picture management program Picasa. At the beginning of May the Picasa Web Albums also closed their doors. Google allows both applications to follow their new Google Photos service and make it a great change for users: the Picasa successor Photos is free, can be combined with Google Drive, and provides high-quality unlimited storage space for uploading images. If you want to upload the photos in the original format, there is still a generous 15 GB free webspace.

In addition, you can use the Cloud service as with Picasa to catalog photos, edit pictures and share with other users. Google Photos can only be used in the browser or by means of an app for Android or iOS. An "offline" application like Picasa, however, will probably no longer exist according to the current state of things.
Google has announced that it will not be available for download from March 15 onwards. But before you're looking for a Picasa alternative, the image management tool should be reused without restrictions. It does not make any difference whether the software is already running on the PC or if you have backed up the 13 MByte setup file and completely reinstalled Picasa on the computer.

Lost is synonymous with the Picasa Web Albums, but Google is not particularly subtle to change photos. Photos and videos stored in the Picasa Web Albums are automatically "moved to a new place" - probably only for viewing and downloading. Google Photos is the only way to create, organize, or edit albums.
Since Google is no longer developing its image management tool, there will be no new features. Sooner or later, many users will be looking for an alternative to Picasa. One finds fast, because image management tools for Windows is available in abundance. But which of these are suitable as a substitute for Picasa?
