Business tablets: From the couch to the office

Business tablets also have classic PC manufacturers such as HP or Dell in the portfolio. As 2-in-1 devices or detachables, they are designed for business customers. Tablets like the iPad have been prepared by Couch-Potatoes for office desks. With the giant tablet, the iPad Pro 12.9, Apple has dared first steps into the business world. With the smaller iPad Pro 9.7 is also to be conquered the business customers, which the large tablet appeared too unwieldy. With the rich performance of Apple’s A9X processors, with crisp, bright, yet low-reflection displays, storage capacities of up to 256 GB, fast internet via integrated eSIM cards, dockable keyboard and input pen, Apple wants to make the common notebook completely unnecessary Code>

Were there not inadequacies like more than modest connection possibilities and the software together with operating system, which skeptics on the plan call, the plan perhaps succeed. Although it may be quite advantageous if you have on a private and business-used tablet does not have many options to connect external hardware. However, the company is also struggling with company applications that are in demand for productive use in the company environment. The fact that Apple is intensifying its business intentions is evident not least from the recently announced collaboration with SAP.

On the other hand, Apple's mobile operating system now offers numerous possibilities of integration into the company's IT. A comprehensive mobile device management (MDM) is also possible, as is the easy management, separation or encryption of company and private data on iOS devices themselves. Solutions that work with containers are not necessary. There is a native management architecture integrated into iOS, which allows a wide range of access and administration options. With the right company app, iPads could take over the offices.

To integrate Android tablets into the corporate network, Google has developed Android for Work (from Android version 5.0). In addition to Google Play for Work, it includes more productivity tools. This makes it possible to create a secure environment via enabled APIs and to install enterprise apps. Company data is located in a separate work profile. Google's Android for Work is available through proven enterprise mobility management providers. They provide companies with preconfigured solutions for integrating Android devices into enterprise IT.

There are currently no Android tablets shown for business use. Criteria for company use, however, met Google's Pixel C. The 10.2-inch, aluminum-made tablet is 7 mm slim and weighs nearly one pound. It works with the powerful Nvidia Tegra X1 processor, 3 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of internal memory and the latest Android operating system Marshmallow (Android 6.0). The corresponding keyboard is unfortunately not included in the scope of supply. After all, it can be attached to the tablet by means of magnets with a handle. It is even possible to tilt the display at an angle of 100 to 135 degrees.

An interesting approach for tablets is also the manufacturer BQ. The latest tablet from the Spanish blacksmith is not only available in an Android version, but also with Ubuntu as an operating system. And both units are also particularly favorable with a selling price starting at just under 200 euros. Both versions of the Aquaris M10 offer a 10.1 inch display with full HD resolution. They are powered by the 1.5 GHz fast four-core processor Mediatek MT8163A. In order to guarantee a long battery life, BQ uses 7.280 mAh strong batteries. The tablets weigh less than one pound. However, the Spaniards have not given the tablet a keyboard.

Among the interesting Android business devices is also Lenovo's Yoga Tab 3 Pro. The 10.1-inch tablet has an integrated 70-inch projector. An additional projector for presentations is not needed.

Theoretically, any Android tablet can be used in companies. The large product range of the premium manufacturers speaks however a clear language: In enterprises, Windows tablets take precedence.
