Scanner app: TinyScan Pro in test

Despite the restrictive legal framework, more and more companies keep their documents digitally. Since a large part of the manual work is no longer needed, electronic archives are much more efficient than the classic file cabinet. However, it is complicated when the digital meets the analogue world. This is particularly problematic on the way, because there are no fast document scanners available. Thus, it takes time for employees to find the time to record documents after an extended business trip.

This does not have to be, because smartphones and tablets usually have reasonably good cameras on board, with which, for example, documents and documents can be photographed. However, a photo is no scan. For this, it is only with an app like TinyScan Pro. The software photographs documents, cuts them and saves them as space saving as PDF in black / white or grayscale format. The quality was both compelling with the iPhone 4 as well as with the iPad Air. Even wavy receipts have just been drawn and have been very readable.

Conclusion

Teamwork in the cloud

The software has shown weaknesses in document management: this starts, for example, with the fact that the PDF extension is not automatically supplemented. This is necessary, however, in order to recognize the documents in the processing as PC's as PDFs. In addition, TinyScan Pro does not have an OCR function. The delivered PDFs are images to be analyzed in the course of post-processing. In addition, there is no way to add keywords. For data transfer, the app is equipped with connections to cloud storage such as Dropbox, Google Drive or SkyDrive. However, an auto-sync function is missing from the software so that each operation is individually triggered.

TinyScan Pro is a complete scanner replacement on the go. Documents are processed and transferred quickly. The manual effort is, however, very high for an archive-compatible preparation of the documents. With large document volumes, there is a risk that documents will be left behind. On the iPad Air the app sometimes ran unstable.
