Windows XP: market share despite support ending still at 25 percent

During Microsoft’s patch day in April 2017, Windows XP last received security updates. Since then the operating system of Microsoft is no longer supported. Nevertheless, according to the market research company NetMarketShare, almost 25 percent of all PCs worldwide still use the 13-year-old software. As a result, users have been exposed to an increased risk of viruses and attacks since the end of support.


XP users should switch to one of the newer versions like Windows 7 or 8.1 as soon as possible. The risk associated with Windows XP is great. Attacks are possible via a security vulnerability in Internet Explorer, which is also no longer fixed.
