60-inch TV Panasonic TX-L60DTW60 on the test

With a square meter of image area and 34 kilograms of weight, the 60-inch is the largest full HD LCD TV that Panasonic has in the program. It belongs to the upper middle class and thus brings with it a variety of equipment features. The lavishly populated connection panel, for example, leaves hardly any bottlenecks in cabling: three HDMI jacks provide enough room for digital image sources, and analogue feeders are also provided. The necessary adapters are included in the box.

TV features

In the data department, the developers have also set it up well: Three USB sockets, an additional SD card slot and the obligatory network access (wireless and wired) leave nothing to be desired.

Installation

For TV junkies, the DTW60 has something special in mind: All tuners - for satellite, cable or house antenna - are available twice. The common-interface bays, which are important for encrypted transmitters, are also designed in duplicate. The advantage is that the TV can record a station, while a second one is displayed on the screen. USB recording is one of its strengths at all. Orders can be created using the Instant Record button or the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). During the recording, the TV automatically sets chapters, which makes the navigation much easier. In the list of recordings, the television shows clearly which programs have not yet been viewed. It also groups consignments of the same name.

Image quality

The only horse foot: The hard drive is almost as a TV married. It must be pre-formatted and then only works with the same TV.

For the installation, the developers have implanted a female-sounding speech synthesizer to explain the many homescreen functions. This is nice, but sometimes a bit long-winded. After all, the procedure can be interrupted at the touch of a button.

Thereafter, the viewer is prompted to select the start screen. In addition to the full-screen mode, he can select other variants that have different focuses: A pure TV screen offers program previews and links directly to the recorder. Another shows calendars, time and notes united on a screen. The third standard screen draped the social networks around the reduced television picture. So the viewer always has all the information from Facebook, Twitter and Skype in mind.

Best settings for Panasonic TVs

If this seems too rigid, you can also create your own version. There he can choose from the many apps that the smart TV menu provides for him. Here, Panasonic offers ample choice. By pressing the app button, the viewer has an overview of the preinstalled programs.

All major video-on-demand portals such as maxdome, WATCHVER and Videociety are available. Also special TV functions are combined on this surface. A paradise for Zapper is the Multiwindow app: it works as a kind of picture-in-picture function with preview of the current program. It can not only poll the receiver, but also switch to the other tuners. In the main screen, the satellite program runs, while the TV in the small window is a DVB-T station or an AV source.

As network center acts the Panasonic faultlessly. His DLNA-Player tested almost all test files error-free. Even DTS soundtracks were no hindrance for him. The DLNA server function has been particularly well-suited for the technicians: Here, every mediaplayer on the network has access to the recordings of the docked hard disk as well as to the tuner of the TV

In the Tontest the Panasonic played better than its smaller brother TX-L42DTW60. He sounded more spatial and also in the bass he reached a little deeper into the frequency cell. The built-in speakers are not suitable for true Hi-Fi enjoyments, but it is sufficient for conventional TV-TV.

In the image test, the giant screen was less weak. With an almost exact gamma and an orderly black value, he already offered very fine gradations in the gray traces. Thanks to the right exact color adjustment there was also nothing to complain about the color reproduction. The red-blue Spiderman-Dress, for example, which was recorded by Blu-ray, he set a crisp scene.

Image setting by app

In terms of sharpness, however, the last trick was missing. However, this only occurs with excellent source material. Some weaknesses showed the movement presentation: In the camera mode the TV sometimes rattled something with pans and requested after a correction in the picture menu. The image option 24p SmoothFilm helped a good compromise between artefact formation and jerks.

The Panasonic TV is very easy to adjust via the VIERA Remote 2 app. Each image parameter, which can also be found in the screen menu, can also be changed via smartphone or tablet. In the color space, for example, each individual color can be adjusted to saturation and brightness. Other image parameters, such as gamma, brightness or motion compensation, are also adjusted with a wiper. The respective changes in the picture are displayed to the viewer without time delay on the screen. Smart: You can save as many combinations in self-titled profiles. Experienced contemporaries can thus change settings at once and directly compare them by visual inspection. And if something goes wrong, the app will reset everything.

Streaming via app

The streaming option of the VIERA Remote 2 app can be seen. Although buffering the data takes a few seconds before the desired video appears, pure quality, there is no reason to complain. The viewer selects by pressing whether he wants to display videos from the TV on the second screen or vice versa to push media files from the smartphone to the TV (Swipe & Share)

However, this VIERA Remote 2 app is a fast infrastructure. Ideally, the TV should hang by cable on the network and the smartphone or tablet connected to the router via a 5-GHz WLAN. Otherwise, there may be times rucker - especially if the selected video has HD quality.

With solid performance, the 60-inch TV is a multimedia center for the home. If you do not want to spend so much on a TV, but you're keen on it's great features, the TX-L55DTW60 is the best choice: its diagonal is only 13 centimeters shorter, but it costs a whopping 800 euros less Br>
