Microsoft Word: Files protected with Word 2003 or earlier have a 40-bit RC4 key. Such a short key allows modern computers to guess in a short time by trying out random character combinations.
The encryption method AES used since Word 2007 is almost unknackable when a long password has been chosen.
Elcomsoft's Advanced Office PasswordRecovery can crack old Word documents in seconds. For documents starting with Word 2007, the time expenditure increases enormously with the password length.
In principle, the 49 euro costing home version, which restores all passwords except for those for VBA projects. However, it uses only one graphics card core for the password calculation. It is faster with the standard version (99 Euro), which uses up to four cores.
