Whether your computer can play Blu-rays or not, you can test with the “BD & 3D Advisor” itself. The tool checks all the necessary components such as monitor, graphics card and software.
Copy Blu-rays to the hard disk: How it works!
Even if you meet all conditions for playing Blu-rays on the PC, you can not make a copy of a disc for a long time. The reason for this is a copy protection that secures practically every commercial movie. While DVD copy protection has been considered as cracked for years, a constant race has evolved between the film industry and Blu-ray copy protection removal companies.
Also interesting is
Without such a tool one comes with the copying of a BD but not further - however, the production and distribution of such programs is forbidden. Download, possession and use of cracking tools is not prosecuted. Whoever uses these tools only for copying their own disks and for private purposes has little to worry about - it is still illegal.
Step 1: Copy BD directory structure
The purpose of the Knack tools is to rip the contents of the template onto the hard disk. This is necessary because the data on the original are usually larger than the capacity of a favorable standard blank, so they have to be shrunk accordingly. An "on-the-fly" copying like it used to be with CDs and DVDs, also failed because hardly anyone has more than a Blu-ray drive in the computer.
Step 2: Copy protection unchecked
Among the forbidden tools is "DVDFab HD Decrypter", which can be found at dvdfab.de. It is part of "DVDFab", a modular compilation of copy and conversion tools. The HD Decrypter is freeware with unlimited runtime. It can be used to copy a whole disc (option "Complete") or only the main movie (option "main movie"). The "DVD Copy" or "Blu-ray Copy" module is used depending on the template.
At the end of the "Target" line, click on the first button and determine the output directory. Anyone who just rips the movie can select the desired languages. Click "Next" to create the hard disk copy. One disadvantage of this free solution is that it can deal with the copy protection techniques of the latest Blu-rays only months later - finally, the provider wants to buy the paid full version.
Different from the tool AnyDVD HD, which you can always download in the current version under slysoft.com. However, the tool can be tested only once for 21 days free of charge. For this purpose, it can be used in the background for every BD movie inserted for all suitable Windows programs and the discs can be copied using tools such as Nero
Instead of reproducing the directory structure of the Blu-ray or DVD on the hard disk, the MakeMKV tool goes a different way. It copies the main movie as a "Matroska video" lossless on the disk. The file has the suffix "MKV". Many programs for creating a movie DVD or movie BD accept these as source material. On the PC you can play MKV files with the VLC Media Player.
In addition, since many media players, BD players with USB connection as well as smart TVs support MKV, you can often save burning to a blank. You only have to connect a USB data carrier to the appropriate device. As Shareware, MakeMKV can be tested only once for 30 days, but the included DVD copying function is also supposed to be unrestricted according to provider.
MakeMKV works very easily. You put the original data carrier (DVD or Blu-ray) into the drive, start the tool and click on the big drive symbol. The tool analyzes the disk and lists all found video tracks. The main film can be easily recognized by the highest GByte. You just put a check mark in front of this "title". If you open its submenu, the existing languages and subtitles are listed.
Dolby Digital (DD) soundtracks, such as "DD 3/2 + 1 German", are preferable to "DTS" or "True HD" because they do not cause problems with the processing. Under "Output folder", you specify in which folder the MKV file is to be stored. To start the ripping process, click on "Make MKV". The read-out takes several minutes, the duration depends strongly on the reading speed of the drive used.
If you want to rip many discs, the best is with an internal BD-burner (from 70 euros). Newer models typically read and burn Blu-rays at 12x speed. This also works when the burner is plugged into an external USB 3.0 housing. Flat slimline burners (from 90 Euros) usually offer only six times the read and write speed, but are more portable and are only able to use the USB connection to power the device.
Playback of Blu-rays requires an encrypted transmission from the graphics card to the monitor via DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort. The Cyberlink Advisor indicates whether the monitor and the graphics card meet this HDCP status.
Step 3: Rip BD to MKV file
All Windows versions lack direct support of Blu-rays. The VLC media player plays Blu-rays, but only if they are not copy-protected. To install a purchase software such as "Nero 12 Platinum" or "Cyberlink PowerDVD 13 Pro" you can not get around. The prices for such software are between 50 and 100 euros.
