RenderMan 19: Release in August as a free download

Pixar will provide free RenderMan animation software in version 19.0. The Free-Non-Commerical version is intended for schools, private purposes as well as software developers. The free and the paid variant should not be different according to Pixar. Watermarks and the like are not used.

On the FAQ pages the Disney company Pixar cites examples of uses that do not make a direct profit. This includes the incorporation into the software, the creation of tools and plugins as well as research and experimentation.

The publication for the free download is planned for the August Siggraph 2017 Graphics Conference. RenderMan will be available for Windows, Mac and Linux. A prerequisite is a registration on the Pixar page.

RenderMan was used by Pixar for well-known productions like Up, Wall-E and Toy Story. But also productions for Hollywood blockbusters like Jurrassic Park, Harry Potter and Transformers used the rendering software.
