The SWR program Marktcheck has found that price fluctuations for online shops, for example, are not only from Amazon seemingly arbitrary adjustments of traders on the basis of supply and demand quantity. Rather, the potentially interested customer himself has a wide influence on the online price he receives for a product. The influences include the device used, the frequency of online visits to those shops, the handling of online advertisements and the time of the day.
Apple users pay more than other
Marktcheck, for example, called the product page for a washing machine at Amazon. The browser of a PC showed as a price 429 euros. On an iPad a price of 439 was called for the same machine. The marketing expert Martin Fassnacht says: "It is assumed that depending on the access device a differently high income is present. For example, Apple product users are assumed to have a higher income. If they browse the Internet, dealers may charge a higher price. "
Marktcheck also found that the user influenced a price depending on how often he was on a company's website. If the number of visits is higher, a higher interest is assumed.
At the same time, according to Marktcheck, it makes a difference, whether the user directly or via an ad in the search engine on an article attentions. If, for example, the willing buyer clicks on a Werbelink at Google, he can get a lower price. As an example, Marktcheck introduces contact lenses for an online optician for around 30 euros, which were suddenly 9 euros cheaper when calling a search engine for a search engine.

According to Marktcheck investigations, fluctuations also occurred at certain times. Thus in the morning between 8 and 12 o'clock and from 8 o'clock frequently changing prices are to be expected. For an iPhone 6 on Amazon, for example, a price of 729 euros was initially determined. Within an hour it was reduced by over 100 euros to 626 euros. This also coincides with a study by the price monitoring company Minderest, conducted by Marktcheck: within three days a camera has registered about 275 adjustments. With another camera was in the same period times a price of 1.690 euros, once discovered only a price of 700 euros. So it's always worth comparing prices.

These schemes are based on the principle of dynamic pricing, which is completely legal. Vendors are therefore allowed to adjust prices on the basis of different influences individually. Most online shopping customers are unaware of this.
