Youtube: Turkish government locks on Twitter also the Videoportal

Internet users who call the Youtube homepage in Turkey are currently receiving only the notification that the Turkish regulatory authority TIB has “blocked access”. Turkish government circles call the action a “precaution”, indicating the country’s mobile operators and internet providers to block access.

While in the past Twitter and Youtube were repeatedly propagating allegations of corruption against the government of Prime Minister Erdogan, this time it was a secret recording of a conversation between the foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu, the secret service chief Hakan Fidan and other high politicians. They talked about the possibilities of military intervention in neighboring Syria.

As with the Twitter closures and their court-ordered suspension, the domestic policy and the Turkish election campaign could also be the real reason for the new closures. However, such a military "secret betrayal" would presumably have a stronger censorship occasion than the expulsion of corruption agents. At the moment, the locks - as initially also with the measures against Twitter - work only on the basis of DNS locks.

The authenticity of the conversation published on Youtube is still unclear. Just as the published information on military provocations and operations of the Nato country of Turkey is real, the day-to-day report can be read here. Some observers are also amazed that opponents of the Turkish government have been able to listen to such highly secret conversations.
