Since early November, Whatsapp marks messages read by the recipient, with two blue hooks. After the unannounced introduced “read” function had led to a storm of indignation, Whatsapp has now hastily reworked. At least for the Android app there is now a new version, in which you can deactivate the reading confirmation.
This has the "Read Receipts" option in the privacy settings, which is activated by default. If you remove the check mark, other users will not receive any confirmation after reading a message. However, you do not see blue hooks as a read-only acknowledgment.
The latest version 2.11.444, in which you can deactivate the blue hook, is only available directly on the Whatsapp website. In the Google Play Store, you'll find version 2.11.432, which does not contain the "Read Receipts" option. The fact that the new function was probably implemented with a great hurry is also seen in the fact that the setting is also found in the English app so far in English.
To install the APK file from Whatsapp, you must allow apps from unknown sources to be installed in the Android settings under "Security". Anyone who likes to wait for an equivalent version in the Google Play Store can take a look at our guide "Whatsapp: Blue Hooks". There, we'll reveal tricks on how to read Whatsapp messages without the transmitter experiencing them.
Tip: Use Whatsapp on your PC in the browser
Also for iOS it will soon be possible to remove the blue hooks. In a beta version of the Whatsapp iOS app, a few days ago the option has been dived. When it lands in the Apple App Store, however, is not yet known.
