The previously prevailing router constraint in American home networks is coming to an end. The Bundestag unanimously adopted a government bill last Thursday, which provides for the abolition of the mandatory hardware.
According to the law, providers are no longer allowed to force their customers to use a company-defined hardware to use the port. The terminals which are now connected as a "network termination point" are thus no longer bound to the provider's wishes. Customers can now request the access data to connect their own hardware.
Speakers of the CDU / CSU are of the opinion that the new law will lead to an extended range of routers and other hardware for Internet use. This would also have the effect of "reducing the risk of wide-ranging security gaps", thus increasing consumer and data protection.
