There are countless Amazon customers – users who have deposited payment information and real personal data online on the Internet. The security around these should be worth every attention to all online buyers. It is known that cybercriminals regularly look for the sensitive data of the users – usually with easy-to-read spam mails, which users can directly delete. More and more, real data is used in spam mails, sender addresses are fictitious, and the presentation is more and more the same as the original design.
In front of such an email in faultless American warns currently "Mimikama.at - the association for clearing up on Internet abuse". The spam e-mail addresses the victim with his real name. An alleged review of the account had resulted in irregular activities, whereupon the account had been blocked. To unblock it, the user should click on a website. This seems to belong to Amazon. The URL starts as follows: "http: //amazon.de-central-", as can be seen on a screenshot on mimikama.at. Only the hyphen after the seemingly real domain name "amazon.de" is an indication of a fake.
In order to give the alleged, "irregular activities" more substance, an incorrect order including delivery address is specified in the e-mail, which is to force the user to act hastily. A correct and courteous cover letter, a serious presentation, and, last but not least, the seemingly genuine Amazon URL can lead to a click on the phishing page, which - like it might be different - looks like the Amazon websites. There the victim is to enter all sorts of data with which cybercriminals can cheerfully manipulate the account and steal money.
The e-mail can be seen almost only at the URL of the phishing page. But in a panic moment - caused by the wrong order - the hyphen can already be overlooked. As mentioned at the outset, you should pay attention to your data security. At best, you never react to such emails. Instead, manually log in to your account using the browser for manual URL entry. Probably nothing unusual will be there. A good and up-to-date virus scanner with real-time protection also ensures that phishing URLs are recognized and blocked.
