Archos 101 XS review: Satisfactory Android 4.0 tablet

Archos 101 xs

Archos 101 XS in test: The keyboard integrated in the display cover is not so elegant as the Surface RT, because the magnetically fixed keyboard cover has to be separated from the tablet for the first time. Moreover, it is very steep. The buttons are quite small, but offer a comfortable key stroke. Less is the fact that the tablet reacts with a stronger pushing pressure on the lifting of the finger with a delay, and thus erases unwanted characters.

The Archos 101 XS itself is equipped with a high-quality 10.1-inch IPS touchscreen, which delivers a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. The OMAP 4470 dual-core processor with PowerVR graphics delivers a good performance at Tegra-3 level, which is expandable via Micro-SD expandable flash memory at 16 GB. The white plastic case of the 370 Euro tablet is somewhat scratch-sensitive.

Conclusion: The Archos 101 XS is not a replacement for a notebook, but for shorter texts such as e-mails, the keyboard cover is quite practical. As a tablet, the Archos delivers a decent performance.
