Sony has installed the company-owned 16 megapixel sensor in the APS-C format (23.5 x 15.6 mm) and has implemented a serial mode in which the NEX-5N with a high throughput of 10 B / s three images in Sequence. Also noteworthy is the extensive range of accessories.

In addition to various lenses, viewfinders (including XGA OLED display FDA-EV1S, 2.3 million pixels) and flash units, there is an adapter with an integrated translucent mirror (LA-EA2), through which A-mount lenses can be connected so that The autofocus works. For ground-level or overhead recording, the user can flip the 3-inch monitor (307 200 RGB pixels) 80 degrees up or 45 degrees down. For the first time, a NEX is a touch screen - a welcome addition to the well-known controls, which, due to the few direct accesses, do not provide an optimal operating comfort. However, the tempo of the 25-point contrast autofocus has not yet gotten under control: In the test, the shutter lag (including AF) was 0.64 to 0.7 s.
Image Quality The Sony NEX-5N delivers much higher resolution in RAW format, significantly better kurtosis and slightly better noise, but loses on the other hand against JPEG with dead-leaves and slightly with the dynamics. The resolution is 1611 LP / BH (ISO 100) and does not drop even with sensitivities up to ISO 12 800. The loss of texture is so small that it usually does not interfere with the image impression (kurtosis 0.0 to 0.2). A visual noise of 0.4 to 1.4 VN to ISO 3200 is also one of the positive features of the NEX-5N. The dynamics, on the other hand, are top only for the lower sensitivities. With their dead-leaves, they can not collect any bonus points: 870 LP / BH at ISO 100, and only 295 LP / BH at 12 800 are average and point to lower contrast.

Conclusion It is the smallest and lightest in this test field, has an ambitious, if not yet perfect Full HD video function and a picture quality with which it surpasses many classic SLRs. RAW makes perfect sense, anticipates the conversion process carefully to the individual image. Buytipp Systemkamera!
