Google is launching a new health project. The Baseline project is to collect data from 175 subjects at the first stage in Research Lab X, according to the Wall Street Journal. The study is designed to enable the definition of a healthy person and the early detection of diseases.
Google Attempts to Human Body
Under the leadership of molecular biologist Andrew Conrad, an expert team will summarize the data in a database. The data sets should record the complete genome of the test person, the genetic background of the parents, and the metabolism.
For this purpose, they are to be examined in the data center for special characteristics, known in medicine as a biomarker. Diagnostic tools and internally developed devices such as the electronic contact lens for diabetics are to be used for the evaluation and examination.
According to Google, the data are stored anonymously and not passed on. A scientific advisory board of the universities Duke and Stanford is to prevent a possible data misuse. In the future, Google plans to include Baseline data of several thousand subjects.
