Legacy of the Void in the Test: With Starcraft 2, Blizzard succeeded to a successive 1998 already immensely popular strategy game, which was staged in three parts. After the Games “Wings of Liberty” (2010) and “Heart of the Swarm” (2013), the final “Legacy of the Void” celebrated its release on November 10, 2017 – we will test whether the last act in Starcraft 2 To be convinced.
Starcraft 2 – Legacy of the Void Review: Story
The story in Legacy of the Void focuses on the breed of the technologically advanced Protoss, who want to recapture their homeworld Aiur from the hostile Zerg. In addition, the sweeping action of Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm has to be brought to an end.
Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void Review: Gameplay
This succeeds - almost already Blizzard-typical - terrific. The story does not hold back with unexpected turns and nasty surprises and creates an oppressive atmosphere in the face of the impending apocalypse, which ends in a grand finale. Moreover, in an epilogue, the strings of action of the Terrans and Zergs are also brought to a satisfactory conclusion.
Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void in Review: Graphics
The gameplay within the campaign also meets Blizzard's own requirements. The mission design is vastly diverse and can never be bored - which is also due to the increased difficulty.
Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void in Review: Multiplayer
The Legacy of the Void campaign is a bit more challenging than the normal difficulty level. The two higher grades, on the other hand, are only recommended for full pros and masochists.
The most powerful and useful weapon in the fight against the threatening end of all worlds is the mother ship "Spear of Adun", which serves us as a command center and support in the ongoing mission. With powerful skills, the ship can save many a hopeless situation. These skills can be freely selected and configured before the start of the mission, as well as the units with which we want to fill our army.
During the game, you can see Legacy of the Void, the slightly dusty graphics engine. Textures are not very detailed - a flaw, but with so many units, only on closer inspection.
Blizzard is well known for the enormous detail of his render videos. It is a pity, however, that Legacy of the Void can only have a single such scene at the beginning - the presentation happens in the following with in-game intersections, still images and in text form
In the multiplayer mode, it becomes clear that Legacy of the Void is another or the last part of a series. With new units and changed starting conditions, the multiplayer mode will be even faster than already - beginners are expected to be quickly overburdened.
The new Archon mode, in which two or more players together control a people, could counteract this. This allows for a certain division of the work, which makes the game somewhat more straightforward without depriving it of its dynamic.
If you are looking for a sample for a successful ending of a game trilogy, look for Legacy of the Void. Cleverly, the standalone extension links all the loose ends of the Starcraft 2 universe and is also staged as great.
Really to complain about is only the beginner fast-challenging multiplayer mode, which could frustrate many new players quickly. Apart from that, fans of real-time strategy can look forward to a very good final of an epic.
