We summarize the news about Windows 10 from the developer conference 2017. Microsoft has announced exciting and important information about the new browser Spartan, and may interest app developers as well as users. First: The new Microsoft browser with the codename Spartan is called Microsoft Edge. Through the name selection, Microsoft can continue the previous logo for Internet Explorer – a blue e – almost in the same form.
Apps for all
Then, Microsoft for Windows 10 announced four SDKs (Software Development Kit) that developers can use to port their existing apps to the Windows platform (Universal Apps). Less spectacular are the two SDKs that target sites and Win32 and Net desktop programs. Web sites can be offered as an app in the Windows Store, the SDK or the later website app - recognizes the Windows environment and can, among other things, offer more specific functions, such as linking to other apps, such as embedding and sharing content . The second SDK makes it possible, among other things, to convert existing desktop programs as apps for tablets and smartphones without having to reprogram them from scratch.
Breakthrough for the Windows Store?
The same applies to the two remaining SDKs. Developers are not supposed to have to write your apps for versions of Windows for Android and iOS again. This will allow Microsoft to make its Windows Store more attractive, and to offer popular apps on the platforms of the Apple and Google platforms at Windows level. The Windows Store has so far been little attractive to developers because of the low number of users and the additional work for developers. This is also apparent in the user community: the offer was small, many important or customary apps are still missing and third-party alternatives are often not a solution.
Microsoft would like to be present with Windows 10 on one billion devices within the next three years: from desktop to tablet and smartphone to embedded systems, for example projects around the mini-calculator Raspberry Pi 2, entertainment devices (such as the Xbox One) ) And more.
Lesetipp: PS4 or Xbox One?
Microsoft wants to offer a store where all devices have access and where there are as few incompatibilities as possible: an exciting project.
Build 2017 will take place from 29 April to 1 May in San Francisco. Microsoft does not reveal a concrete release date for Windows 10, however. We will keep you up to date. Read more about Windows 10 in the linked articles.
