Part 7: Video editing: On the other side of Hollywood

The Adaptec subsidiary Roxio has barely modified the video editing program VideoWave 5 after the purchase of MGI. The surface is quite catchy. The import and export functions are sufficiently versatile and almost “nonsense”.

However, VideoWave offers far too little functionality for the actual video cut: a timeline is missing, the clips can only be assembled in Storyboard mode. The storyboard adapts to the user needs in a practical detail: VideoWave reduces the display of the clips automatically when adding numerous clips. Roxio supports Storyboard mode only. Therefore it would be absolutely necessary for longer films that the software can arrange the clips in several rows under each other - mis-display. VideoWave does not have significant sound processing features: it is not possible to select two or more video clips and connect them to a single sound file.

Unfortunately, the documentation does not reach the high standard that users of other Roxio programs like WinONCD are accustomed to: the manual does not even provide a basic introduction, in the online help we missed basic concepts.
