Salzburg Test Games

The latest version of the legendary sedan series is already showing the break with the tradition from a distance. If, like the WEKA parking lot, the powerful retro grill is concealed, the 5.12-meter car is very difficult to make a legacy of the round, elongated but somewhat elegant Jaguar XJ series

The smooth, streamlined shape with a high roof line seems to be more of an everyday use than the traditional carpet.

And then the British do not even care to equip the test car with a diesel engine. The self-evident form and the self-ignition in mind as well as the ownership change from Ford to the Indian Tata group in mind, sneak a somewhat mixed feelings, if one into the future hope of the enterprise. Multi-colored leather, where you look, wood paneling and a two-piece panorama roof.

There is a generous sense of space mixing with wonder at the lack of an automatic selection lever. The unique solution looks like a copy of the hotly debated BMW iDrive and only starts out of the center console when the driver presses the start button.

After all, the Hi-Fi tester has its task in mind right from the start: the typical yellow Kevlar diaphragms of the front 10 cm mid-range speakers are clearly visible at the front and at the top in the doors as an interruption of all-round wooden applications Code>

Who does not yet guess the brand when looking through the hole lattice - after all, the yellow of the Kevlar mid-range drivers has been the face of the extremely successful home speaker of B & W for years. Small, conspicuously placed type labels help. No question, in times of clogged streets, precious oil reserves and permanent carbon dioxide discussions, Jaguar is keen to define the second stage of a mobile concert hall.

The combination of futuristic design, the "most intriguing audio system ever integrated into a production car" (the OTON of the developer Matt Jones), and a V6 self-ignitor, promises sporting performance, makes you curious. The first big surprise: Practically silent and completely vibration-free, the Jaguar sets in motion.

Our highly regarded local diesel specialists from Ingolstadt, Munich and Stuttgart can not do this better. Even though a V6 engine is by no means the first choice in the theory of vibrations, this is by no means a matter of the hard combustion of today's direct-injection engines.

The apparent weightlessness of the aluminum body also amazed us. If reservations about the paradigm shift in the sign of the leaping cat were "on the boat", they were already blown away after a few kilometers.

This exceptionally powerful and, above all, torque-strong common-rail diesel follows the accelerator pedal like the diaphragms of the legendary B & W studio monitors to the impulses of the amplifiers. Quickly get used to the individual gear selection by means of rotary knob.

The shift paddles on the slightly oversized multi-function steering wheel are just for "late pubertal would-be-shooters": the tuning of the six-speed automatic with the extremely low-speed diesel with its 600 Newton meters of torque fits perfectly to any driving situation Br>

The only thing that draws attention to the drivetrain, which is usually completely hidden, is the extreme Schongang design of the highest driving stage, which is clearly noticeable when the vehicle is fully accelerated as a large increase in load and at the same time as a large speed drop. Otherwise, you never think about engine or power.

You relax in the comfortable, well-shaped leather seats and turn to your destination. This is achieved after overcoming some logic problems with the navigation input, thanks to the very clear visual displays almost as comfortable as a passenger in the Business Class.

Our goal is Salzburg, the perfect test tour with an alpine panorama. After the not-so-intuitive goal input and the tricky start of the target guidance on the HD touch screen have cost us some time and nerve, we trust in the search for a suitable local lunch for local experts.

In Mozart's city, an old acquaintance is living with a special connection to PS and notes: The racing driver Robert Lechner has been making music himself since his earliest childhood and is a great hi-fi fan.

He has just picked up his new record player at Transrotor boss Jochen Räke and is eager to take a free minute to integrate it into his music room with B & W equipment for 5.1 surround playback. Above all, Lechner is the perfect chauffeur - so you can experience the sound system of the Jaguar also from the back seat times.
