Special requirements often require special measures and expenditure. If, for example, smartphone power users run out of storage because they love to watch Hollywood movies on the road, then only an external hard drive with WLAN connection actually helps, because smartphones read micro SD cards mostly only up to 32 GB. The “modern” phones have no more card slot and Apple’s iPhone anyway not. Wireless-based solutions are available, for example, from Seagate and Toshiba. Very trendy is the Samsung T1. The Mini SSD transfers data extremely quickly thanks to a good controller.
Samsung Portable SSD T1
The mobile SSD T1 (form factor MO-300) is hardly bigger than a lighter and very stylish and flat. The 3D VNAND data memory must first be "enabled" by means of a tool. Only a 128 MB partition with the software to be installed is visible. "Encryption" activates 256-bit encryption if desired. The T1 achieves good read and write rates of 270 and 296 MB / s respectively. If you would like to buy this mini-design memory, you will pay 200 MB for 200 MB and for 1 TB for only 400 Euro.
Toshiba Canvio AeroMobile
On the laptop you can move data with the AeroMobile via the USB 3.0 bus. In the test lab, the disk transfer rates of 126 and 138 MByte / s via the USB 3.0 cable - too little. From an SSD, we expect the 300 MB / s. The WLAN connection via app runs smoothly. The fun transfer remains modest with 3.5 MByte / s however. Even our full-HD test videos do not play without misfire. The app itself is very clear. For example, you can conveniently copy data from an inserted SD card to the SSD. Price: 120 euros.
Seagate Wireless HDD
Seagate's wireless hard drive is interesting for smartphone owners who have a space problem. Seagate offers a media app for iOS, Android, Amazon and Windows operating systems, which allows you to stream movies and music directly from the HDD. Direct access is possible under Windows. To do this, you must enable network sharing. The SharePublic-01 can then be easily integrated as a network drive. The power of the Seagate with 3.4 or 7.1 MByte / s in the up- or download is only sufficient.
