The Netflix streaming service now allows 4K resolution through the web browser – but only via Microsoft Edge.
Jonathan Sampson on the streaming resolution
Microsoft has announced this week in a blog post that Netflix content can now be streamed via Windows 10 PCs in 4K resolution. Micosoft Edge will be the only browser that supports high-resolution streaming. According to Microsoft, it is possible to stream a whole series episode more than comparatively with Chrome, with the same battery charging with the edge browser, whose performance with Videostreams consumes an enormous amount of power.
In a streaming test, which Microsoft had carried out in June with different web browsers, Edge had the best resolution against the competition. The details are given at the end of the article in a Tweet by Microsoft employee Jonathan Sampson.
In terms of high-quality streaming, PC users have now a bit ahead of the Mac users. But the thing is still hooked: in order to enjoy the high resolution, one needs the seventh generation of the Kaby-Lake-Core-i-processors, which so far only have a few devices.
The Techniknews page neowin.net has listed possibilities for how to get Netflix streaming even without Microsoft Edge at 4K. The Netflix app, for example, goes through the Amazon Fire TV or the Xbox One S. Also some Blu-ray players, with which one can stream Netflix, can resolve the 4K image.
