Midrange, bass and hearing test

The mid-range driver was almost unchanged from the 800 Series. Its 15 cm large Kevlarmembran is not led as usual by a movable rubber bead at the edge, but lies on a narrow ring of foamed polymer. The advantage is that the partial oscillations which necessarily occur as a function of the transmitted frequency are less pronounced, resulting in a better pulse response and a smoother transmission function.

Buying advice: Surround speaker sets in the test

Powerful bass potential

All of the speakers in the set work with 20-centimeter-sized bass chassis - the center and the stalls even with two. Kevlar sandwich constructions and front and center paper as well as carbon fiber and Rohacell in the four rear-room boxes are a great way to achieve maximum membrane stiffness.

Hearing test

A special feature: front and center are modular. The mid / high tone unit slides midway through the center, while the two basses act on the left and right. In the standbox, this unit is located at the top of the housing. The criteria which are decisive for the homogeneous reproduction of the set are fulfilled in any case: the identical medium / high tone placement and, above all, their vertical arrangement in all boxes.

Conclusion

For the best possible subwoofer, we have chosen subwoofers from the 700 series: two flat bassboxes with 38 centimeters of paper / Kevlar membranes. On the other hand, two bassboxes offer a more balanced bass reproduction in the room next to the double membrane surface.

Buying advice: Soundbars from 230 Euro in the test

The matching SA-1000 active units are equipped with a 1,000-watt power amplifier, low-pass filter, level adjuster, phase switch and two switches for variable high-pass filters as well as the EQ settings for music and movie Br>

A switch on the rear panel adjusts the equalizer for the selected subwoofer. Thanks to the bass-strong "satellites" we have chosen a transition frequency of 50 Hz so that the two subs were actually only responsible for low-frequency effects, whereas the bass quality was defined by all the sets of the set >

In the hearing test, we found: In terms of sovereignty, we have not heard of a better home cinema set. But first we look at the audiophile qualities in stereo mode without subwoofer. The live recording of Patricia Barbers Use Me is very suitable for this. The percussion sounds silky and finely resolved, the jazz singer tonally authentic and well-focused in the middle. Each bassnote is reproduced in a differentiated way.

Test: B & W Panorama 2

In the 7.2 mode, however, other laws still apply. At the forefront are the potential for dynamics, the low-pass potential and the authentic atmosphere - criteria that the spectator imagines in the middle of the action. Starting with old film classics like "Armageddon" and "Titan A.E." "U-571" to "Lara Croft" and "X-Men", everything turned out to play, which promised the highest dynamism and bass pleasure.

Unimpressed, the nine British soundtrackers dare to play this hard-to-digest action food. When in & quot; Titan A. & quot; If you are flying through the listening room, then you should be able to squeeze huge ice crystals, then you have to crack and throb: the B & W set defines dynamics quite new.

Let's take the thunder at the beginning of the movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith": The deeply bubbly swinging seems to be swinging longer and, above all, deeper than ever before. The B & W set can be powerful and allows relaxed loud listening, but can also subtly subtle subtleties. Coarse and fine dynamics first class - perfect!

The bad news first: you must save, save a lot (the set costs 38,000 euros). The good news is that you do not need to go to the movies anymore. With this CT set you get speakers that sound better than most cinema sound transducers. Loudspeakers that leave nothing behind, but do not add anything - truly reverberant sound transducers for your home cinema.
