Windows 10 & DirectX 12: Microsoft calls the GDC 2017 news

Whether Windows 10, DirectX 12 or Universal Apps: Microsoft surprised at the GDC 2017 (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco with a lot of details about the upcoming operating system, which should also inspire players.


The Xbox Live SDK (Source Development Kit), which is also to be used for Windows 10, was released for first developers. The SDK provides access to a variety of Xbox Live services, which are now also available in the Windows Store.


Also to DirectX 12, Microsoft announced new details. Thus the Redmonder showed a demo of the upcoming game Fable Legends, which thanks to Unreal Engine 4 and the new interface of nearly 20 percent more performance. The company also commented on the so-called Universal Apps. As already explained at the preview event at the end of January, the apps are supposed to unify all Windows platforms.


This allows developers to easily develop a single project for multiple platforms: Windows PCs, Xbox One, tablets and smartphones with the mobile OS will benefit from this merge. The Universal Apps will also work for future devices such as the VR glasses HoloLens.
