Those who use Dropbox in conjunction with Microsoft Office may look forward to it: a new partnership between Microsoft and the cloud provider will soon allow Office files such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents to be downloaded directly from the dropbox app to edit. Changes are automatically synchronized.
At the same time, it will be possible in the reverse direction to save files directly from Dropbox to Dropbox without leaving the app. Dropbox sharing of files will also be possible directly from the Microsoft app.
The new features will be rolled out for the Android as well as the iOS app of Dropbox within the next weeks. Next year, there will also be a dropbox app for Windows Phone and Windows tablets. An integration into Office Online and Office 365 is also planned according to Dropbox. The new features will also be available to all Dropbox Bussiness customers.
The partnership between Dropbox and Microsoft carries the manuscript of the new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Instead of rigidly focusing on its own product portfolio - with One Drive, Microsoft finally offers a direct Dropbox competitor - the Softwareriese is now trying to orient itself more strongly to the market conditions and the wishes of the customers. And there is no dropbox at Dropbox: The business variant of the Cloud service is used by more than 80,000 companies. In total, Dropbox reports over 300 million users.
