Do Samsung and LG use 3D TV?

3D TV could soon be a thing of the past.

Two major TV makers seem to be serious about 3D TV. Samsung will no longer incorporate the 3D feature into new TV models. And LG will reduce the number of models with 3D functionality by half. This is reported by the Korean specialist portal "etnews". "Etnews" also writes, according to industry sources, Samsung had ordered with its suppliers no further 3D glasses with the active shutter technology. Samsung wanted to say so far about the future of the 3D TVs nothing. At LG, 3D will be treated as an additional feature for premium models.

Meanwhile, fewer and fewer films are being shot in 3D. Internationally some 3D TV stations were discontinued. 4K Ultra-HD is becoming more and more important and new technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) appear to be progressing step by step, the report analyzes.

The problem with the shutter technology that Samsung uses is that the TV panels have to have 200 Hz. This is usually the case with the new UHD televisions only in the absolute premium class. The lower-priced TV classes reduce the 3D resolution by half. In this case, it makes more sense to omit the 3D function.

The polarizing filter technology, which is used at LG, significantly reduces the efficiency. Only less than half of the light passes through. This makes the TV for High Dynamic Range (HDR) useless. And this year HDR will be more important than 3D.

It would be unfortunate that 3D would not be offered anymore. Among the films released on 3D Blu-ray are always beads, which are fun in the home cinema.
