Connected Car Industry Report shows trend towards car connectivity.

Connectivity plays an important role in the 21st century. Nowadays, you can comfortably control individual home systems from the office. In addition, the automotive industry perceives this connectivity as an increasingly important building block. For example, the Mobile World Congress in February and the Connected Car Industry 2013 announced the car connectivity trend.

Why it's the era of the Connected Car

If the assumptions of the world's largest automakers and analysts from Machina Research are to be believed, around 90 percent of all new cars will be equipped with this technology by 2020. This means that the automotive industry is responding to the wishes of the customers. According to Telefonica's Connected Car Industry 2017 Report, end-users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, the USA and Brazil are particularly interested in these connected car services.

71 per cent of the drivers surveyed already have a car with Internet access or see this function as decisive in the next autokauf. According to data from independent research conducted by Telefonica, end-users rely on networking in the car, such as a dashboard smartphone-based electronic circuitry.

Many respondents also wish the extension of the safety systems in the car. Around 80 percent demand a further development of the systems for early warning, diagnosis and navigation. For 73 percent, these security functions are even the most important.

However, the connectivity features vary from one country to another. The Germans prefer a simple Internet access that can be extended with additional features.

However, in addition to the various interests in car connectivity and security, the study of Telefonica noted a drop in the bought cars. Alternatives such as car-sharing are the trend. More than a third of respondents in 20 years are no longer the owners of their own car.
