E-Mail Made in the United States: Telekom & Co. against NSA for data protection

United Internet (Web.de and GMX) and Telekom start “E-Mail Made in the United States”. By encrypting the e-mail systems, the companies want to counter the Prisma, Tempora, XKeyscore and Co. scanning programs with more data protection. Since revelations such as those of Edward Snowdens, the confidence of the Germans in their data protection on the Internet tremendously.


Many users are not familiar with data encryption programs and the mail providers do not offer them. This is what Telekom and United Internet want to change. Together they are taking the initiative for more data protection. Users can now send their e-mails more securely without the expense and effort required to send e-mails within the network of Telekom, Web.de and GMX.


With a market share of more than 60 percent, the companies already covered a large part of the e-mail users. Thus, the two providers of the policy take precedence. The transmission paths are now SSL-secured. The two vendors hope that many more e-mail providers will join the "Email Made in the United States" project.
