Brother and Oki have started a new trend. LED color multifunctionals are also becoming more and more attractive for private use with a fax function, a small footprint and an attractive purchase price.
Secure and always ready for anything
Just before printing, we found, for example, the Brother MFC-9120CN with three American online senders for under 375 euros. Also three dealers were ready to make the Oki MC561 for under 810 euros. In particular, the Brother is entering a price range that could be a real alternative to the office inkjet for some home users.
The MFC-9120CN measures around 50x43cm (TxB) and is smaller than an Officejet Pro 8500A Plus with around 47x50cm (TxB). That sounds great, but is there no catch? Yet, two even. For one thing, the Brother is missing equipment. It does not have a duplex unit.
To print paper on both sides, you have to apply a hand. All other test candidates offer automatic duplex printing - as is the case with the HP 8500A Plus. The second catch is that Brother 9120CN also does not have a USB stick connection. As a result, it is not possible to directly scan PDF documents to this storage medium without using the PC.
If you do not want to do without duplex and USB-Stick-Scan, you have to go to Brother-Line-Up to the next larger device. The Brother MFC-9450CDN is equipped with laser technology, which makes it bigger and heavier and, of course, also considerably more expensive - it is rarely to get under a road price of 570 euros (including shipping costs)
Nevertheless, you should not discard the purchase of a cheap LED-Multis immediately. In direct comparison with ink-multis one has advantages, which can be decisive in the office day.
Two key advantages have toner-based printing systems against their ink colleagues. Documentary authority is often important in the office. Solidified toner is water resistant even on plain paper. This does not apply to ink. Even pigmented ink, which is explicitly used for office printers, blurs when it gets wet.
Only specially coated paper into which the ink penetrates can be referred to as water resistant. The second advantage: LED and laser systems are not as prone as ink printing systems. The ink jet nozzles can still dry up, even if much has been done on the manufacturer's side. On toner printers is simply more reliance.
