Toshiba introduces new TVs, Blu-ray players and services

At the CES earlier this year, Toshiba had already announced Ultra-HD TVs. Three are now entering the American market. In the sizes 58, 65 and 84 inches (147, 165 and 214 centimeters diagonal) comes the M9 model series. The TVs are to enter the trade in the course of the third quarter. The prices of newcomers are much lower than in the case of models known to date. The costing is not yet fixed, but depending on the size, the calculation is about 10,000, 8,000 and 5,000 euros.

Program recommendations with Cloud TV

The high-end is equipped with all kinds of network functions, wireless display for transmitting the comuter picture to the TV screen as well as the new Toshiba feature "Cloud TV". The newcomers are also equipped with everything Toshiba can offer. It is, for example, possible to add pixel-sized images to the ultra-high-resolution screens via USB, SD card slot or network in order to present them in 4K detail. Toshiba also provides laptops for the second quarter of this year, which output 4K images via HDMI.

Buying advice: All Toshiba TVs at test

All smart extras will also be plugged into the Full HD models available from the second quarter. Already from the Toshiba middle class (L4 series) they are to be found with a price of 1,000 euros at 127 centimeters image diagonal (50 inches). 3D abilities are available from the L7 and M8 series, using both polarizing and shuttering technology. 50 inches cost here from 1,200 euros, 58 inches from 1,900 euros. As a result, Toshiba customers will receive generous packages in sizes ranging from 32 inches to a total of five series. Differences will be found mainly in the playback speed and the additional possibilities for the picture setting. Direct LED with Local Dimming is no longer included in the portfolio.

Cloud TV "will complement the existing smart offer, which is a start-up menu, the heart of which is an elaborate recommendation service for TV broadcasts, depending on the viewing habits of the Toshiba owner, especially the genres are taken into account The Toshiba recommends a look at the message service Twitter, because broadcasts, which is much discussed there, are also included in the recommendations That these programs are interesting or belong to those who simply have to "be" to be on the stand, so the Japanese go a new way and attach great importance to the topic of "TV recommendations" Not surprising that you can also send your own tips to your friends via the new start screen.

Practice: Optimal settings for Toshiba TVs

In addition, the start menu provides Internet services, such as YouTube, and offers a search option by keywords, which includes all possible channels. If you're looking for a particular movie, according to Toshiba, you'll get the info, whether you have already stored it somewhere in the home network, let it be ordered by video on demand, or whether it will be on television for the next days.

Interesting finesse: The start menu and its contents are similar to a homepage on the Internet. The page is only stored in parts on the TV. The recommendation is therefore not in the TV electronics, but in the significantly more powerful servers of Toshiba. An app for tablets that can be linked to the same service should be available in April.

Cloud TV and network also come to the Blu-ray players to the train. Four new models with prices up to 169 euros have been announced, which connect via dongle or already integrated WLAN module to the domestic router and to other network partners.

Two additional cornerstones for UHD and Cloud TV represent Toshiba's design and operation. The declared goal is to give all devices a uniform design line as well as a very simple usability. This includes, for example, a new "Installation Wizard" integrated into the menu, which introduces the new feature world of Toshiba.
