Intel announces Xeon processors with up to 18 cores

Intel has now officially announced the new Xeon CPUs “Haswell-EP” and specifically named five new models in a “Product Change Notification” (PDF file). The server and high-performance processors are expected to come on the market in about three months. The Xeon models listed include the processors E5-2699 v3, E5-2698 v3, E5-2697 v3, E5-2695 v3, and E5-2683 v3.

All five support the FIVR and have the new socket 2011-3 with DDR4 memory. “Haswell-EP” has taken over the essential elements of “Ivy Bridge-EP”. Three versions with 8, 12 and 18 cores serve as a basis. For the latter two, you can probably disable individual segments (3×6 and 3×4 processor cores).

Since Intel has so far withheld from the public concrete information on the technical files, it is still speculated about how many cores and clock rates the Xeon processors ultimately have. On the Internet, however, the data seem to be an open secret: as many online rumors announce uni sono, the E5-2699 v3 will be the deluxe edition of the "Haswell-EP"

In addition to up to 18 cores with a level 3 cache of 45 MB, hyper-threading and a base clock of 2.3 GHz, a maximum power loss (TDP) of 145 watts, which the E5-2699 v3 should have, will be discussed . The E5-2689 v3 with 16 arithmetic units is also ranked second in the other four models, while the E5-2697 v3, E5-2695 v3 and E5-2683 v3 each have 14 cores
