Asus Zenbook UX330UA-FC059T review

The Asus Zenbook UX330UA-FC059T had to prove itself in the PC magazine Testlabor – and could achieve very good results.

Convincing values

If you are looking for an elegant and compact companion on the road, you will have been keeping an eye on the Zenbook series in recent years. Asus offers models with 12.5 to 15.6 inch displays in a very chic, elegant design and offers further configuration options on the website. Our test model Asus Zenbook UX330UA-FC059T is new to the market and belongs to the popular 13.6 inch class.

Features for demanding

The heart of the Zenbook UX330UA is a powerful Intel Core i7-6500U processor from the Skylake generation, which is also used in many competition models, but only has two cores. By means of hyper-threading, four bars can be processed simultaneously. With the performance of a desktop i7 notebook processors are basically not competitive, but compared to other notebooks, the new Zenbook is great and is recommended as a mobile deployment machine for a wide range of applications.

Fa zit

For good performance in the laboratory and in practice, good individual components but also a meaningful overall composition are decisive. Asus flanks the Intel main processor of the Zenbook UX330UA with 8 GB of memory and a SanDisk SSD with 256 GB. Programs start as fast and work reliably fast.

Benchmark values in the overview

PCMark 8 (Work) certifies this with a good 3.106 points. With Cinebench R11.5 (CPU), the Zenbook reaches 3.5 points and with HD Tune it reads data thanks to the SSD with an average of 403.2 Mbytes per second. The performance of an SSD might be even better, but it would hardly be noticeable in day-to-day work.

If you want to play on the small 13.6 inch of the UX330UA between times also can. That is the compact all-rounder a decent graphics card for higher performance values, but the Intel integrated in the processor HD Graphics 520 is not so low in performance, As in the first generations. With the 5.732 points reported by 3DMark Cloudgate in the test, it is certainly not possible to gamble up elaborate 3D games of the latest generation, but it is no problem for many less demanding titles.

For more than 1,000 euros, buyers expect not only good performance values, but also a solid workmanship and the little extra at "chic". The new Zenbook is just 1.3 cm high and can be presented everywhere in the noble Metalic design. The processing was very convincing in the laboratory and the proud owner was very easy to carry with 1.2 kg.

The keyboard is in layout and size, from normal desk keyboards, which allows for easy and fast typing without altering. The large touchpad works flawlessly and circles around the left and right of a sufficient area for the hands.

The matte IPS display offers full-HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and was also in the measurement lab against comparable models with good values. Brightness and contrast are good and the reflection is very low.

A lot of space for external connections is hardly possible with the compact design, but the space is sufficient for two USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 (Type C), audio and SD card reader. An external monitor can be connected via Micro-HDMI, but an adapter is necessary, which unfortunately is not included. While this is still a problem for many users, the lack of LAN port might be more annoying. A spontaneous cable connection to the network is thus not possible, here one is dependent on WLAN, but then has all standards (802.11a / b / g / n / ac) available

Very pleasing is the good endurance of the Asus Zenbook UX330UA-FC059T. In the stress-intensive PCMark 8 Battery Test ran the notebook around 5 hours, but with normal work you can count on over 8 hours of battery life.

The brand new Zenbook UX330UA-FC059T was tested in the test and is rated "very good" by us. If you're looking for a powerful as well as powerful mini-companion, this Zenbook is the right choice.
