Windows 10 Update Countdown: Change or not?

The free Windows 10 Update runs until July 30, 2017.

On July 30, 2017, the free upgrade of Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 is officially launched. Now is the best time for a change. Afterwards, you have to pay for Microsoft's current operating system if you want to switch from the predecessors to Windows 10. We make it easier for you to decide with our article and the overview Pro and ContraUpdate.

Anniversary update at march

Windows 10 makes much better and hardly anything worse than its two predecessors. The system combines the best of two worlds: the speed of the Windows 7 interface and the more advanced background techniques from Windows 8.1. All children's diseases of the first release have been eliminated.

In terms of operating comfort, Windows 10 sets standards that make the upgrade attractive: whether you use the system with a keyboard and mouse, touchscreen or input stylus, everything sits in the right place. On desktop PCs and notebooks with Windows 10, the handling of desktop applications and apps hardly differ from each other, and on tablets work apps as under Android or iOS. Even on the smartphone, the stylish PC desktop interface thanks to Continuum is always present - with a large screen and a Bluetooth keyboard, you can use Word & Co. on the mobile as on the desktop PC.

There are still a few legacy debts from the two-part Windows 8.1 interface, such as the double system configuration via the app settings and the old system control.

Another now-change argument is the July update of Anniversary Update (Codename Redstone). With it, the second big improvement package for Windows 10 is in the starting holes. Once again Microsoft has optimized the Start menu and the All Apps overview from the narrow menu bar into the larger tile area shipped. There are new icons to the left of the program list and a pop-up menu in the upper left.

Significantly, the changes in the hitherto unsurpassed Cortana are significant. The support system with now improved speech recognition is supposed to support the user Microsoft with proactive advice or hints over the day - it remains to be seen, how one feels that as disturbing. Cortana is now also active on the welcome screen with restrictions and can provide any user - without the PC - unlock information or take over the shutdown of the computer. Cortana will not reveal any confidential information until after the registration.

Cortana is also firmly integrated into Windows Ink, a kind of toolbox that bundles all app applications with pen support. If handwritten notes like "Aunt Klara on Saturday from the station pick up" scribbled on the display, Cortana asks whether a reminder is to be made for the appointment. Ink also includes a new screenline as a drawing aid for straight lines.

Even in the map app, the stylus should move in to draw the desired routes manually. With the new pen functions, Microsoft wants users to move away from analog pen and paper and to use Windows devices such as the Surface Tablet.
