813 grams are lightweight for a camera with 35mm sensor. Still, the processing of the Sony SLT-A99V is of high quality. The mirror in the camera does not fold away when triggered: it is semi-permeable. Therefore, the display image is always available and does not need to be activated as with the SLR. The preview image is displayed either on the rotatable and swiveling screen on the camera back or in the fine-resolution electronic viewfinder.
However, the user manual only deals with the possibilities of the filmmaker: you have to find out how the aperture, exposure time or the ISO value can be adjusted manually. When the autofocus is switched off, the manual modes P, A, S and M can also be activated for film recordings. The sharpness is then adjusted by hand on the lens. This one-of-a-kind solution is not ideal, but this camera has the gentleest tracking.
Buying advice: Five HD camcorders in the test
The noise of the engine can be heard softly on the soundtrack. To emphasize is the quality of the built-in stereomicrophones, which was a bit rustling, but also by far the most saturated sound with acceptable Eigengeräuschen offered. Unfortunately, the Sony can not shoot while shooting.
The colors were convincing in the test prints. The sharpness was not very pronounced: some fine details were lost - this was not due to the relatively low depth of sharpening due to the large sensor. The noise in dark images was moderate. Moves the camera without jerks and with sharpest details. The optics convinced with a good image stabilizer.
Thanks to good video equipment and easy handling, this camera is also suitable for first attempts at filming terrain without the need for accessories. By the way, she is the top model under Sony's reflex cams. Unfortunately the operation in the manual is only described in the approach.
