The new generation of mirrorless Samsung system cameras uses a 23.5 x 15.7 mm large 20 megapixel sensor. Your specialty is wireless communication via the integrated WiFi module. The top model NX20 offers an electronic viewfinder, an adjustable monitor and a built-in flash (guide number 9) in contrast to the smaller siblings. Compared to Sony’s counterpart NEX-7, it is minimally larger and heavier, but on the other hand it is slightly cheaper (1000 Euro).
Housing and equipment
The lightweight plastic housing of the NX20 is quite solid - not least because of the rubberized coating on the hand reef and the support for the right thumb. SD slot and lithium-ion battery are located in the same compartment and are not accessible when the stand is unscrewed.
Searcher and Monitor
The equipment of the NX20 includes sensor cleaning (ultrasound), image stabilizer (in the lens) and, in addition to the possibility to record exposure and white balance series, the recording of several images with different styles. This can also be customized by the photographer via color, saturation, sharpness and contrast. The NX20 also has a further special feature: its electronically controlled slit shutter allows very short exposure times up to 1/8000 s.

Wireless cable transfer
The NX20 has a monitor that unfolds, pivots, and therefore, in most situations, allows the photographer to look directly at the preview from the front. It is an AMOLED and PenTile display, which works with two instead of three subpixels per pixel and remains relatively clear even with direct sunlight or with a larger angle of view.
Using an eye sensor, the NX20 switches quickly between the monitor and 100 percent viewfinder. The latter provides a large, clear image with no pixel structure and, if necessary, displays grid lines as well as shooting parameters. However, it is relatively sluggish.
As usual in this camera class, the NX20 focuses by contrast measurement, whereas in the normal mode 15, 35 fields are available in macro mode. The NX20 needs 0.61 / 0.74 s (1000/30 lux) for focusing and triggering. In the series function it creates NX20 instead of 5.2 (NX200) now 6.7 B / s. This is faster than the previous model, but its buffer memory is full after 11 JPEG or 8 RAW recordings, so in less than two seconds. It also takes very long to process the data that comes from the photo series.
The "WiFi" function offers many options and is easy to use. Images can be sent quickly by activating the "Email" menu in the WiFi menu and typing the sender and receiver address via the on-screen keyboard. The camera automatically searches for available WLAN networks, asks for the password, and after logging on successfully logs all the selected photos, after compressing the files independently to two megapixels.
Similarly, the photographer can upload images to the Internet on Facebook, Picasa, YouTube or Photobucket. With the appropriate apps, the smartphone (iPhone, Android) is also a viewfinder, remote trigger or playback monitor. The wireless transfer to TVs works either over a private or public WLAN network or via WiFi directly, but this requires a WiFi compatible TV.
The NX20 works with the operating concept similar to all current NX cameras: Frequently used settings such as ISO, white balance, exposure compensation, aperture and shutter speed can be easily selected with the left hand on the kit lens with the i-Fn button on the kit lens. Thus the rights to operate the setting screen remain free, which provides even more important functions and setting options.

The NX20 comes with some useful comfort features: for example, it has a rotary dial around the four-way rocker, close to the trigger, easily accessible for the right pointing finger. You can also store three custom profiles and get them from the mode dial.
There is a separate trigger for video recording. It remains active in the photo modes so that the user only has to switch to the dedicated video mode if he wants to film with manual settings. The full-HD recordings are strikingly clear and sharp. However, the continuous autofocus decreases the sharpness slowly and jerkily. When the camera is tilted, the picture noises are intensified. And occasionally, strange image errors occur.
Operating concept
The NX20 achieves a limiting resolution of 1820 LP / BH and a visual noise of 0.4 VN. The irregularly structured, colorful Dead-Leaves-Chart is made up of 1400 LP / BH. From ISO 800, the stronger intervention of the NX20 noise filter is visible, and the texture of the fine texture is increasingly increasing. Overall, it can be said that the electronics intervenes very cautiously.
At ISO 100, the Samsung NX20 offers in the test a good picture quality, but from ISO 1600 it no longer comes against Sony's NEX-5N and NEX-7. What is missing from this camera is a kit lens with a smoother zoom ring.
