AV receiver with HDMI 1.4 in comparison

The countdown has ended since the IFA. The top class of Denon, Marantz, Onkyo and Pioneer starts with HDMI 1.4a, the latest state of the art in 3D television. The development proceeds at breathtaking pace. Maybe even flat screens without glasses will deliver brilliant 3D images soon.

Who has HDMI 1.4a on board, is well equipped, especially since the also the new HDMI standard audio back channel is a great benefit. A single cable to the compatible monitor is sufficient, the sound of which is transmitted from the integrated digital TV tuner to the receiver via the same HDMI cable, via which the TV receives the picture signal from the control center Code>

The additional digital audio connection from the TV to the receiver is thus no longer required, which means that the stripe has to be stopped.

As far as the number of HDMI inputs is concerned, all four manufacturers are now very generous. At the outputs, only Onkyo and Pioneer are donated. Your two AV receivers offer two HDMI outputs, so you can control both the projector and the TV monitor at the same time.

In terms of new technologies, these two brands also set the tone in the 1000 euro class: their products have a network connection for connecting to an Ethernet router for web radio. Onkyo handles audio streaming and firmware updates from the Internet. And the Pioneer can be remote controlled via a router with WLAN even with the free iPhone app iControlAV.

Marantz and Pioneer also offer an external plug-in option for wireless audio streaming from mobile phones via Bluetooth.

All receivers now have front-end USB inputs for connecting mass storage devices to playback digital audio streams. IPods and iPhones can be connected directly to these jacks. For this contemporary luxury, all manufacturers have significantly reduced their analog standard video connections in this test, except for Onkyo.
