Toshiba wants the film star to be among the top models and shows many refinements, in front of and behind the camera look good. In doing so, decent make-up is used instead of cosmetic surgery. And a good character is worth more than blinding.
Hollywood gives greetings
For TV models, the general overhaul of the look can produce very positive results. Toshiba hired the designer Jacob Jensen for a facelifting. He uses clear lines and high-quality materials.

On the narrow frame of the LED edge-lit panel there was little room, Jensen worked with subtle mirror tricks at the lower edge and on the chic stand. The recess in the foot is strikingly open. This gives the largest TV in the test an undefined ease.

The Ghostbuster
As with the small models, Toshiba has a natural image quality. To achieve this, the "Hollywood Project" was launched, which aims to reconcile picture quality with the standards used in the dream factory.
This brought many improvements in color and brightness transmission (gamma function). Professional functions such as 10-point calibration, color space setting and single-mode, even a built-in test pattern create scope for optimal image matching.
In addition, Toshiba also does not save on "amateur" options. If the image source is poor or the TV is not darkened, noise filters, resolution (sharpness) enhancements or a superbly adjustable light sensor are desirable functions. In the "AutoView" mode, the TV adapts as fully as possible to the TV signal and light situation.
One of the highlights is a little bit that often interferes with daily TV enjoyment: the strong sound dynamic between film and advertising. Here, Toshiba uses the best existing method for tonalization: Dolby Volume.

The new Toshiba delivers a surprise in 3D mode. Its image flickers less than it is usual with the LCD TVs of the competitors with the currently best 3D-Surprising (Sony and Samsung). The measurement of the full-level ghost images shows a good value with 41 dB crosstalk attenuation (twice as good as with Philips or LG); with real films, the 3D error has a significantly lower effect.
This seems to be due to the fact that the new computational processor, which also performs the 200 Hz motion optimization in 2D mode, is active against ghosting. In simplistic terms, theoretically, when optically one percent of the image glows into the wrong eye, one percent of this image is electronically subtracted from the other eye. This works when the signals are not quite white or black.
Toshiba succeeds in this 3D polish very well, only in extreme contrasts you can see dark 3D shadows from time to time, where other TVs will show bright conversations - perhaps until a new firmware is even smarter.
Testimonial
Toshiba 55 WL 768
€ 3.300, www.toshiba.com
+ Quiet 3D image with little conversations + professional image options + WLAN integrated contrasts
Overall rating: very good 82%
Price / Performance: very good
It is worth mentioning that the 55 WL 768 compensates for the color errors of 3D glasses and that many image optimizations are available in 3D mode - including "Resolution +", which makes the images of side-by-side TV material much sharper.
The image of the Toshiba is very natural, but clearly less tearful than that of the Philips or LG. The thin display can not stop dimming locally. This is the small brother 46 WL 768, whose size is similar to that of other TVs of this test, already for 2,300 euros.
