In addition to the transfer of image data to a PC, the cooperation with a smartphone (here a HTC Desire S) proved to be a big plus. After loading, installing, and launching the "EOS Remote" app from the Android Market, mutual contact was an easy exercise.
The Smartphone then displayed the images stored on the SD card of the Canon EOS 6D and used it as an external controller in the "Remote recording" mode - with a live image display, access to various camera settings (aperture, shutter, ISO, exposure compensation) And the possibility to select the AF point by tapping the finger.
If you double-click the AF point twice in the style of a "double click", the area is enlarged. A prerequisite for the functioning of the EOS remote app is according to the Canon Android 2.3.3 or higher. The EOS Remote is also available for iOS 5.0 or later.
For exposure metering, the EOS 6D uses a dual-layer sensor with 63 zones. This is also known from the 5D Mark III, but there are deviations in the selective measurement with approximately 8 percent of the facial field (5D Mk III: 6.2 percent) and in the spot measurement with 3.5 percent (5D Mk III: 1, 5%).
The Canon EOS 6D has to be satisfied with 11 measuring fields and a central cross sensor. Anyone who has expected to find the dual AF system of the Canon EOS 650D (47.5 points in the test) with phase and contrast AF on the sensor at the 6D will be disappointed. For shooting with focus, the Canon needs 0.35 / 0.42 sec. At 1000/30 Lux, while in continuous shooting mode it delivers 4.4 JPEGs per second.
The EOS 6D also has the standards (A, P, Av, Tv, M) in the repertoire as well as scene modes and two individual memories. The Canon EOS 6D 's Quick menu (setup monitor) is designed to be appealing and allows for many direct operations without having to go through submenus. The "thumb wheel" is smaller and less grippy than the 5D Mark III. And the 8-way switch, integrated in the wheel, is not as accurate as the joystick of the 5D Mark III with gloves - the test took place in the deepest of winters.
In the menu, the second structuring level is missing under the menu tab as in the case of the 5D Mark III. Nevertheless, the entries can be easily surveyed, since a maximum of seven are shown per page.
Conclusion
In terms of image quality, Canon's "small" full-size camera is in no way inferior to its larger sisters. The dead-leave values are very high.
