Watch out! A new phishing mail on behalf of the Telekom wants panic with back payments. To this end, the cybercriminals present a convenient and fast way to settle the debts safely – by prepaid card. The e-mail received and analyzed “Mimikama.at – Verein zum Aufklarung über Internetmissbrauch”. A serious layout, a bill, allegedly unsuccessful payment requests and a “last” deadline will convince the victim of the urgency and lead to quick action.
The cybercriminals continue in the phishing mail in the name of the Telekom: Some victims could now react panicky and accept the payment option mentioned below in the phishing mail. The responsible persons convey the impression that Telekom would offer prepaid transfers for such urgent payments. A real (!) Link to a provider for Paysafecard - these are credit cards - is called. There, users can purchase a code directly from online payment service provider Giropay.

This code with stored credit should then be entered on a counterfeit telecom website. This looks typical for current phishing attacks deceptively genuine. Only in the URL is once again recognizable that it is a fraud. If users enter the code they buy, the money is spent with the crooks who can cheerfully spend. The bruised victim then simply paid for payment arrears that do not exist.

Adjust accordingly. As a rule, nothing will change automatically in the way you pay for your telecom bills. On prepaid cards, Telekom will not even start - especially not after an impersonal announcement by e-mail. In the case of telecom invoices, please provide a personal salutation, a corresponding seal, and in the e-mail program or browser, a confirmation of authenticity which is validated by an invisible signature.
