Midland brings improved actioncams to the market

The XTC-400 records maximum 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 or 25 frames per second, and offers another shooting mode at 720p, then at 50 or 60 frames per second. The smaller models XTC-280 and XTC-285 come only to 30 images at 1080p and 60 images at 720p.

The XTC-400, XTC-285 and XTC-280 record Actioncam typical in MP4 with H.264 compression on Micro SD cards with up to 32 gigabytes. The lens of the camera can be rotated by 270 degrees, a clear difference to the Sony cam, whereby the double image stabilizer for sharp images without distortion should ensure. The battery life is doubled with the smaller models XTC-280 and XTC-285 with five hours. For this, the recharge time is extended by one hour from three to four hours.

New with the XTC-400 is the WiFi function with the help of which the camera communicates with smartphone or tablet wirelessly. Via mobile devices the filmmaker can then preview and store the videos in real time on the mobile device. You can also control the camera using the matching "ActionConnect" and shoot individual photos like picture series with up to 12 megapixels (interpolated).

In addition to a USB and HDMI interface, the Midland also has a microphone input for connecting an external microphone. The XTC-400 is the only action camera that can be attached to both sides and the camera floor using a new mounting system. Convenient - the outdoor camera is equipped with a standard tripod thread. A variety of brackets are also available as an option.


The XTC-280 will be available in June 2013 for Euro 189, the XTC-285 will be released later this summer, but Midland does not yet give a price.


The largest of the three, the XTC-400 comes to measures of 89 x 34 x 51 mm and weighs around 133 grams. It will be available in July for 299 euros. It comes with a diving case for up to 85 meters depth and a USB cable.
