When do Ultra HD content come?

In September, IFA passed the IFA exhibition halls in Berlin, which saw an ever-recurring collection of impressively sharp TV pictures by most major manufacturers. Almost all TVs over 50 inch diagonal showed images with 3.840 x2.160 pixels resolution – thus UHD. Even the brand new OLED TVs will soon be offering UHD resolution and then have a diagonal up to 77 inches. At least the prototypes of the arch rivals LG and Samsung from Korea, who were attended for the show, showed this.

Little movie, a lot of Timelapse

Such muscle games belong to the IFA as the syrup into the Berlin whites - they make it even more colorful. Among experts, prices were rather discussed: Just about 2.000 euros demands about Toshiba for its 58-inch UHD television - to this list price there were two years ago not even branded TV with Full-HD resolution. Whether it is using technology is questionable. However, the industry needs urgent success, since sales in doubt more than profits.

Is the UHD-ray?

Anyone who broke away from the price and big discussion did find that hardly a UHD exhibit featured action films. Often the demo material consisted of impressive time-lapse recordings, partly even in high-dynamic range (HDR), recorded with digital SLR cameras. Each individual image is composed of several exposures.

Even Hollywood Bilingual Joe Cane came to the IFA to record such footage. "We want to show the people in Hollywood how 4K movies should look, that's it," he said, holding up his Nikon D800 with a 10x zoom lens. Just: Movies in good 4K recording quality are lackware, and currently it is hardly possible to bring them in full color resolution and sequence on new UHD TVs

These TVs offer HDMI 2.0

Just before the IFA, the required version HDMI 2.0 was released. Current devices show UHDAuflösung, but not with image frequencies over 30 Hertz, usually synonymous not in full color resolution. There are also no standardized procedures for the production and distribution of UHD films.

At least not in the United States. In the US, for example, Sony is a step further: the TV and film producer has a 4K movie player in the program, the UHD TV buyers of the first hour free of charge for the high-definition television. From autumn, new films will be available for download - a good 70 to the end of the year. The Sony video store Video Unlimited gets a 4K extension.

Ultra HD - The new generation of television

In the United States the player is not planned. But at the end of the year comes the PlayStation 4 and then UHD-suitable. Then it's only a matter of time when there are 4K films for them too.

However, UHD movies will not only be available for download in the future. According to industry experts, the Blu-ray forum - also with the significant participation of Sony - is working intensively on an expansion of the disc standard. Details on the UHD-capable Blu-ray Disc are expected at CES in early 2017.

This also suggests that at the IFA hardly new Blu-ray players were presented. Exception: the Toshiba BDX- 6400. In that scales a special video chip full HD images on UHDAuflösung high. The new UHD Scaling test by Technicolor has shown that this is a very detailed procedure. UHD also plays a major role in current technology.
