Pokémon GO is now available as official download for Android.

Pokémon GO is here: The Android app of the hit hit is officially available as a free download on the Google Play Store. The App for iPhone and iPad also appeared in the iTunes App Store about an hour later. This is the long-awaited release in the United States.

Android users should know that Pokémon GO requires at least Android in version 4.4 or higher. Players with iOS need the version iOS 8.0 or later. The app is optimized for smartphones, but not optimized for tablets or the iPad.

If you're impatient and have already installed Pokémon GO via APK, you can update the app through the Play Store. The previously created account is retained. The fear of sanctions therefore does not seem to exist.

There is, however, a little confusion in the version numbers. While the Play Store officially offers the Pokémon GO version 0.29, which was also available as an APK file, many users report that they have received version 0.29.2
