Three combinators tested

Not one, not two, but three or four devices combine in one housing: satellite or cable receiver, Blu-ray, network and media player. In the Volksmund, these models are also often referred to as “Eierlegende Wollmilchsäue”, because they combine the advantages of each category.

However, only a few manufacturers have combined equipment on offer. We've got a model from the three producers LG, Samsung and Panasonic in the lab and examined how well they are in the different disciplines. There are two categories

The combiners are getting better and better, because they combine the functions of many devices in one. Gone are the days when different devices piled up to true pyramids in the living room. Common to all models is that they have a reception part. As well as a Blu-ray player, they also have network functions and can play many media, but they are also network and media players.

The models of LG and Samsung are HDTV recorders with built-in Blu-ray drive. So you can record on the built-in hard drive and play Blu-rays and DVDs. The devices are therefore comparable. The Panasonic model, on the other hand, falls a little out of the way because it is a Blu-ray recorder. This means you can not only record on this hard drive, but also on Blu-ray or DVD discs. Another useful feature, if you want to watch a movie, for example, with an acquaintance and has only a suitable player.
