RAW converter: DxO Optics Pro 9.5 in the test

Optics Pro is available for Windows and Mac and costs 100 Euro in the standard version. Owners of full-format cameras must purchase the elite version for 200 euros. Early on, the manufacturer recognized that the high-quality RAW conversion also include optical corrections, that is, above all, the correction of lens errors. By means of profiles, this goes largely automatically. Most users will only need to load and export users to the program.

Also interesting is

The automatic corrections look almost always good and need no further intervention. Of course, not every photo fits into the mathematical corrector. A big shortcoming is: Unlike the competition, DxO does not integrate image management. This means users need another program to organize their photos. In version 9.5 Optics Pro integrates itself into Lightroom again - which was not the case for a while. From the Adobe program, users can send images to Optics, which then sends a edited DNG photo back to Lightroom. All metadata is preserved.

Conclusion

Apart from the profile corrections, tools for color and brightness correction are also available on board. In particular, the shadow correction works excellently and usually delivers very good results even in the semi-automatic mode. The good de-noise algorithm also contributes to this. For particularly serious cases, the program offers the "Prime" mode.

In contrast to the standard noise, however, this is very computational. The sound of each photo is taken for several minutes. In addition, the real-time preview is only usable in the "prime" mode. The final result can only be checked exactly after the export. For normal rushing photos, however, the fast standard mode, which is on a very high level roughly the same with Lightroom and Capture One. With Prime, even with the ISO-3200 photo, the fine grain disappears almost completely, whereby details are sometimes more clearly recognizable - great!

Reconstruction of highlights, on the other hand, leaves Lightroom to users. Color correction is also much more flexible in the Adobe program than in Optics Pro. When exporting, Optics Pro is minimally slower (6.2 min) than most competitors, also the change from picture to picture takes with 2.8 s somewhat longer. Users must wait half a minute to start the program on the test system.

DxO Optics Pro 9.5 scores with great camera and lens corrections, very good brightening in combination with a strong etractor as well as interlacing with Lightroom. Most corrections provide very good results automatically, which compensates for the somewhat slower working speed.
