During the night on Monday it should not have been possible for about three hours to participate in online games or to access PSN accounts. Also the Playstation Store was temporarily not available. Both PS4 and PS3 players were affected, but access to the PSN should now work again.
Sony now has to face serious accusations and criticism by data protectors, as it has recently come to a serious password leak on the Playstation Network. Several hundreds of thousands of user data have been captured. Sony had not made the hackers but also very difficult.
The hacker group Lizard Squad seems to have licked any blood and threatened with a "very special Christmas gift": On Twitter the hackers announced that they would enter Microsoft on 25 December 2017 and shut down Xbox Live - forever. Whether this threat is only a grandfather or actually a Christmas disaster for Xbox players will be hard to assess.
Lizard Squad are already known for their DDoS attacks on servers from Blizzard, Battle.net, Dota 2, League of Legends, Path of Exile, Sony Online, and recently Sony's Playstation Network and Xbox Live. At least they were proud of these attacks. The attack on Xbox Live would be the first announced action of the Hackergruppe. Microsoft is taking the threat seriously and is arming itself accordingly.
