Philips has not saved on the 21: 9 devices so far. The TVs were nicknamed “Platinum” and contained in picture quality and equipment everything that was possible. Anyone who is concerned with the data of the device, quickly realizes that it is not a slimming down of the big "Cinema 21: 9" TVs, but a broadening of the 7000 series. The most important parameters are the backlighting of the panel by side-mounted LEDs, simple intermediate image computation for motion compensation and 3D playback in the polarization filter process.
As far as the entire range of basic tuners, network features, multimedia, and recording options is concerned, it is equal to the top models. Even Ambilight has been integrated - with Lounge function and even ISF-calibratable reference background light, but only in "Stereo" - right and left behind the screen
The 21: 9 format is popular in the cinema - it does not exist as a TV standard nor native of Blu-ray. So special attention had to be given to the format selection. Philips is very successful.
For purists, the automatic format selection should fit, which is distortion-free, but with Overscan all formats (4: 3, 16: 9 SD anamorphic and HDTV) correct. In this case, the overscan - the range which may be subject to sampling errors outside the useful image - can be variably selected up to not available. For full-HD full-screen movies, there is the non-scalable, non-scaled mode, with black bars on the right and left.
The 50PFL7956K analyzes both the send data for signal formats of the picture format as well as black bars in the picture and always finds an intelligent solution. Manually, eight additional modes can be commanded as image formats. In practice, the unproportional zooming mode Visible area maximally can often be used.

The Cinema 21: 9 mode zooms in a super-wide wall film, such as Blu-ray, in correct proportions so that it is now format-filling for the 2.560 x 1.080 pixel-sized display. In this case, the film is slightly less sharp than "not scaled", but the resulting image size is much more impressive.
