Bioshock Infinite in the test

In the test of Bioshock Infinite, “Why” was a central question. At all, the game raises a lot of questions. But once from the start: A deserted lighthouse on the high seas greeted the player in the world of shooter highlights. He has taken control of Private Investigator Booker DeWitt and is now sitting together with two other people in a small rowing boat. Why Booker is now entering this dark lighthouse is not clear at first. But since there is no other choice, Booker goes into the threatening building and quickly realizes that this is not as abandoned as it seems. A couple of video sequences later, the player finds himself in the flying city of Columbia. In contrast to Rapture, the underwater city of the two predecessors, Columbia does not seem at all threatening at first. No, on the contrary: it is almost idyllic. And here it is, shooter-typical, teeter with opponents, lurking behind every corner dangers and wild battles arise? The answer: Yes. And it’s a lot of fun.

Even before Bioshock Infinite starts properly, the order is clear: Find Elizabeth and take her to New York without prejudice. Who is Elizabeth and why you should look for the young woman at all, the player does not learn. Fortunately, Booker does not have to wait long for Elizabeth to cross him. The rest of the game is shared by the two teams. The young woman turns out to be extremely useful because she not only donates supplies, but also sets up guns and never stands in the way. The dialogues between Booker and Elizabeth are, like the whole game, very well-tuned.

The mission: find Elizabeth

The basic principle of Bioshock Infinite is that of the two successful predecessors. Many enemies that need to be done, many crates, chests and containers to browse and various useful forces, the Vigors. Vigors are the pendants to the plasmids from Bioshock 1 and 2. These forces allow Booker to use firearms as well as firearms against attacking opponents. But it is also possible to manipulate machines.

From Vigor and Weapons

To install the game, a Steam account is needed because the Bioshock serial number is linked to the account. This also requires a one-time Internet connection. Gambling is only possible after successful linking.

Already for the release, Publisher 2K Games has announced three DLCs to the game. These carry the story further and bring new weapons, more vigors and other equipment. These will also be available through the Steam platform.

Thanks to a tight atmosphere, Bioshock Infinite understands how to move players quickly into the new story of Booker DeWitt. Although Columbia is not as oppressive and frightening as Rapture, but in its own way, this city is eerily beautiful. With Elizabeth at his side, the player has new possibilities in the fight open.
